Travelcat2 Posted March 16, 2016 #28 Share Posted March 16, 2016 Does anyone know approximately how much the "pay extra" excursions run? With the Explorer debuting soon, it puts the cost of Regent Choice Excursions all over the place. For instance, we are doing an excursion in Barcelona that is $299/person and one in Funchal that is $89/person. I would say that the range is from $79 - $599/person. IMO, the Regent Choice Excursions are usually 1000% better than "included" excursions!
gnomie1 Posted March 16, 2016 #29 Share Posted March 16, 2016 It seems that more and more of the "better" excursions, at least on the Explorer, are "choice" excursions and the prices being charged are eye-opening. There were a few that we were interested in and then I did some more investigation and learned that for some of them, we can book the same or private for considerably less than what Regent charges. For the most part, Regent and Oceania use the same land operators for excursions, and Regent appears to be charging the same or slightly more for the same excursion on Regent than on Oceania. We have had some amazing choice excursions and some that were major disappointments - never know ahead of time. We were huge fans when Regent started to include excursions but we have noticed a huge decline in the quality over the past couple of years which we find disappointing and truly hope that this is not what to expect in the future. gnomie :)
Travelcat2 Posted March 16, 2016 #30 Share Posted March 16, 2016 Many higher priced Regent Choice Excursions on the Explorer include time in the Culinary Center. Having taken the best excursion in our lives on the Riviera (that included the Culinary Center), IMO, it is worth every penny and cannot be duplicated on a private excursion. As has been mentioned many times, there are "included" excursions that are good to excellent but are available only in certain parts of the world. Some of our India and Africa excursions have been on the excellent side while many included excursions in South America have been on the less than good side. Many passengers use their OBC's for Regent Choice Excursions so the cost isn't that big of a deal (assuming that you have a good TA and also have a branded Amex platinum card).
