Stockholm Advice thread 2015

Recommended Posts

I tried the port link but couldn't get it to give me anything in the future - am I doing something wrong? Could it be my browser?

Thanks!

It's a little quirky, but change the drop-down to "Expected," change the dates manually to include summer 2016, type celebrity or princess or whatever in the search window and they will come up.

Go to this link: http://www.portsofstockholm.com/vessel-calls/

and make the following selections (cruise ships have their own tab now):

POS-vessel-calls2_zpsh9nokcxa.png~original

This will give you a list of all cruise ships calling in any of Stockholm's ports next season.

Just click "show more" when you get to the end of the list.

I have to amend my claim that the Regal Princess won't call in central Stockholm because it will.

I only looked at the first two visits in May for which it will call at Nynäshamn but for the following calls it will sail into Stockholm.

2016-06-01

2016-06-23

2016-07-15

2016-07-26

2016-08-06

2016-08-17

2016-08-28

2016-09-08

but Regal Princess will call at Nynäshamn for these dates:

2016-05-10

2016-05-21

2016-06-12

2016-07-04

First scheduled cruise ship arrival next season is MSC Musica on May 3rd and the last scheduled arrival is AIDAmar on October 13th.

I will also make a thread for next year but it will likely take a few weeks until it's up and running so in the mean time, if you have requests regarding contents, feel free to post it in this thread.

We plan to take the Commuter Train Line 36 from Central Station to Marsta then board Bus 583 to ARN. Please let us know the following:

1) How can we find this train at Central Station?

2) When we get off at Marsta train station, how do we find Bus 583?

3) Are Train 36 and Bus 583 running on Sunday?

Thank you so much for your help.

The best way to find the right platform is to go into the main hall and read the information boards/monitors to see what platform number your train leaves from.

Normally platform number is 15 or 16 but changes might occur.

You can find info here (I don't know about reliabillity): http://www.dinstation.se/stockholms-centralstation/#outgoing-commuter

and here (reliable): http://www.trafikverket.se/

1. If Stockholm central is not shown by default enter it in the search box and click visa.

2. Click pendeltåg

3. find Train 36 to Märsta.

Those platforms are accessed via the the lower floor tunnel:

http://www.jernhusen.se/Global/Stationer/218227_STHLM_orienteringskarta_A3.pdf

You will enter the main hall from Vasagatan.

For the bus, you will find it north of the station building: http://www.stationsinfo.se/station/marstastation/

http://sl.se/ficktid/karta/vinter/Marsta_term.pdf

https://www.google.com/maps/search/m%C3%A4rsta+station/@59.6284119,17.8624054,523m/data=!3m1!1e3

Bus #583 will use D stop and destination sign on the bus should say Arlanda.

Both operates all day of the week.

For timetables go here: http://sl.se/sv/reseinfo/ typ 36 or 583 into the search box.

Click the pdf icon to the right of the search result to open/download time table (in pdf format, pdf reader required).

We will be disembarking the Seqbourn Quest on May 21 and spending three days in Stockholm. We are interested in visiting the main attractions and would like to possibly visit one of the archipelago islands. Is taxi best bet from cruise port to Ett Hem Hotel, which I understand is slightly off the beaten track? Would Stockholm Cards be a good investment for us? Also getting from the city to the airport I assume is best accomplished by taxi. We have also considered UBER, which I haven't read much about in Stockholm. Any thoughts?

thanks so much for the advice.

I think taxi would be a good choice from the ship to the hotel but it is also possible to do the journey by public bus.

Bus #76 fråm Värtahamnens färjeterminal to Ropsten, switch to bus #73 towards Karolinska institutet, get off at Odengatan stop, hotel is some 300m walk from there.

As for the archipelago islands, there are many interesting islands, some of them are very far out which means that it will take many hours to get there.

However you can have a look for yourself:

http://www.blidosundsbolaget.se/en/day-trips/

http://ww2.stromma.se/en/Skargard/Cinderella-Boats/Day-trips/

The Stockholm card might be a good idea but it depends on what you are planning to visit.

From January 1st the following museums will have free entrance:

http://www.svt.se/kultur/konst/fri-entre-pa-statliga-museer-nasta-ar

An intermediate solution could be to only purchase a 3-day travel card,

http://sl.se/en/fares--tickets/

The nearest place of purchase from your hotel would be Östra station.

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Ett+Hem,+Sk%C3%B6ldungagatan+2,+114+27+Stockholm/Stockholm+%C3%96stra+station/@59.3462554,18.0690027,18z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d6a3dd4d6e5:0x91dd08d9d5e4e98!2m2!1d18.0677033!2d59.3455136!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d41d74f0ea7:0x4516543209f98eab!2m2!1d18.0717137!2d59.3461133!3e2

For the airport transfer, taxi or train would be the best solution.

For train, use T-bana (subway) from Östra Station to Stockholm C and then Arlanda Express from there.

I have no experience from Über, but from what I've read about them, I wouldn't use them myself.

It is important to know that the Stockholm card will not be valid after December 31 , 2015.

This information is from the Visit Stockholm site.

"If you are planning to visit Stockholm in 2016, please note that the Stockholm Card will be discontinued after December 31, 2015. All Stockholm Cards with expiry date in 2016 will therefore be valid until December 31, 2015."

"There are however several products you can use to explore Stockholm during your stay in Stockholm in 2016. Read more here about travel cards, MyStockholmPass, or contact us at Stockholm Visitor Center to hear more about different ways to explore Stockholm."

Hi Desdichado62,

We will be on the Celebrity Eclipse docking at Frihamnen on June 9th. At 10am. We are thinking of catching the 76 bus to Djurgårdsbron. We would like to visit the Vasa Museum, the Abba museum and Skansen. As the ship leaves at 5pm, I expect that we should aim to be back at Frihamnen for 4pm. Do you think it is possible to fit these three sites in?

And taking that there will be busy times at the museums could you advise which order to take?

Thanks

Alan

Sure it is possible, you might not have time to be through but you should be able to squeeze them in.

I would do the order in which they are located

It is recommended to walk along the water front from Vasa to Abba since it is shorter distance and it will also give you a nice view of Stockholm ström.

1. Vasa

2. Abba

3. Skansen

Skansen is the one that will take the longest so when you get there focus on the town quarters.

Possible if you book table reservation far in advance, Skansen would be a good place to have lunch.

Due to security reasons, Drottningsholm Palace will be closed for visitors until further notice. The park, the café and the shop will still be open for visitors as usual.

The Royal Palace will still be open but with increased security.

Desdichado62, Thank you for posting your Stockholm Advice Thread 2015. It is so packed with useful information that I expect I will be working with it from now until my ship sails at the end of May. That is, unless you are planning to update it? If you are, when should I look for your new one?

In the meantime, perhaps you could help me with the "Vessel Calls" site. My ship, the Pacific Princess, is scheduled to make a port call in Stockholm on July 5, 2015. I can't find it listed under Kryssnigsfartyg, All Ports, expected, Stockholm, expected, Nynashamn, expected, or Kapellskar, expected, although I can find the Regal Princess, the Emerald Princess, and other cruise ships listed during the month of July, 2016. Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Islandwoman, Emerald Princess and Regal Princess can be found on the site (stockholmshamnar.se), but not Pacific Princess as far as I can see at least.

You may have to change from "Inneliggande" to "Väntade" to see the ships that are expected to be there at a certain date.

"Inneliggande"=ships in port now. "Väntade"=ships that are expected.

Sometimes you have to scroll down to click on "Visa fler" to see more ships, especially if you are looking for a longer period than one day.

Strange thar Pacific Princess is not listed. Are you sure you are going from Stockholm...? ;)

Ok... I now see that there is an "In English" button on the port site :o which means you can use the English version which makes it much easier for you, I guess.

Still can't find Pacific Princess though.

She's rather small, maybe she will be at the new pier in Värtahamnen (close to Frihamnen). Can't find any information about that so it's only a guess.

Unless Princess has changed the itinerary and not bothered to tell the passengers yet. It's been known to happen

It's the "Scandinavia & Russia Collection", sailing from Dover on July 1, 2016 and scheduled to be in Stockholm on July 5, 2016 from 7 AM to 2 PM. It's such a short port call that I won't have time after we dock to figure out where we are, how to get where I want to go (to Gamla Stan), and make it back to the ship on time.

We sail from Ft. Lauderdale on May 28, so I'd like to have plans in place before then.

Thanks, I had planned to have a new thread up and running by now but things have been delayed.

I don't know exactly when a new thread can be expected but it will probably take at least another two months.

I find it strange that your ship is not listed, however given that Frihamnen berth F638 and Stadsgården S160 berth is both taken,

my guess is that you will be berthing at Stadsgården S167 but you shouldn't take this for absolute certain.

If you want to be on the safe side, contact Princess or ports of Stockholm since they should know.

Or you could make plans for the different possibilities. You should be able to figure out pretty easily which quay you are heading to.

If your ship is berthing on a cliff side quay you're at Stadsgården, if you berth at a pier, you will be at Frihamnen/Värthamnen.

This is Frihamnen:
