Saffir Posted March 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2015 I found out about Princess's military OBC benefit after I'd booked, and I looked very eagerly to see the details. I was dismayed that my service didn't actually seem to fall under any of their categories -- I was medically discharged after 11 months of active-duty service outside of a war zone. Still, I decided to submit my application and my DD214 within a very polite email explaining my service history. Nothing to lose but a little of my time, right? Turns out I was right! I looked at my Princess Personalizer today and saw the full military credit had been applied to my account! There was no email response, but that's quite all right. So the message here is that even if your service history doesn't quite fit Princess's categories, give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised by the outcome. :) And I hear that Princess keeps the information on file for all of your future cruises, too! Thrak Posted March 4, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 4, 2015 My son was also medically discharged after being injured outside a war zone. He broke his neck while in the army and is permanently severely disabled. Princess had no problem extending the military credit to him.

knbcruisers Posted March 4, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Georherb.....Princess and it's parent company CCL are pretty sophisticated. I don't believe they would offer these discounts if they did not make financial sense. Just like they wouldn't offer OBC to shareholders or the free perks to elite passengers or those who use the casino frequently. By the way I am a shareholder and have no objection to any of these promos.
davekathy Posted March 4, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2015 It would be nice if all the other Cruise Lines offered the same Military OBC as Princess does. Kudos to Princess.
Corinda Posted March 4, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2015 And an extra little perk - now that you have it - it's automatic for any princess cruise you book.

But if that needs to be explained to some then they will never understand.

RocketMan275 Posted March 4, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 4, 2015 And I hear that Princess keeps the information on file for all of your future cruises, too! And, another thing. The military benefit can always be combined with most, if not all, offers. Princess is not like some other lines that make you choose between using your military benefits or another offer. BTW, the former Princess CEO served in Vietnam and supported many veteran's causes.

Congratulations! And "THANK YOU"! As a disabled veteran myself, I understand that whether it is 11 months or 21 years - you served our nation selflessly in service and commitment. Never be afraid to seek out benefits that you may not be aware you are entitled to. It never hurts to ask! My DH and I have appreicated the OBC that Princess offers to veterans (and, for those who feel CCL stockholders may be losing some revenue - we never have a problem in 'returning' the OBC and then some back to Priness! ha!) Wishing you many years of happy memories made on board with Princess!
julie3fan Posted March 4, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 4, 2015 It's great for the OP. Not so great for stockholders. OP, a sincere thank you for your service! As a stockholder, I don't begrudge the perhaps 1/1000 of a cent that my shares won't realize because you got the well deserved OBC. :-) Happy sailing. The OBC is nice but better yet is the message Princess is sending "thank you for your service" to all the vets who sail on Princess ships...way to go Princess;)

Princess is not like some other lines that make you choose between using your military benefits or another offer. BTW, the former Princess CEO served in Vietnam and supported many veteran's causes. This outstanding program was implemented on Alan Buckelew's watch & I'm not aware of any other cruise line having anything close to the "thanks" given by Princess. I too am a CCL shareholder (to get OBC) & eligible for the MOBC but cannot believe that the MOBC program would be questioned...wow! Saffir...enjoy your 1st cruise that you are so eagerly anticipating & thanks for your service. :) Edited March 4, 2015 by Astro Flyer
thresher Posted March 4, 2015 #18 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Thank you for your service. I am glad Princess granted the military benefits to you. As a veteran and a stockholder I have no problem with them doing so. It is a wonderful gesture of gratitude by Princess, and a shame that someone chooses to cast a cloud over it with a snarky comment.
geocruiser Posted March 4, 2015 #19 Share Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) Just some info on Princess's Alan Buckelew. Buckelew served in the U.S. Army in 1969 and 1970 in Vietnam and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Air Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and two Bronze Stars. Gimer Posted March 4, 2015 #20 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Saffir, welcome to Princess Cruising. Besides your Military Onboard Credit, during the cruise, Princess Cruise Director Staff will host a "Veteran's Get Together". It will be posted in your Daily Patter for the time and place. For my last three cruises, the hosted Military Get Together, Princess served us champagne along with a 'Thank Your' for your Service. Now that's a class act. Rare geoherb Posted March 5, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 5, 2015 I don't begrudge the vets who meet the qualifications. I think it's a wonderful thing for Princess to offer. But when Princess set up the offer, it defined the guidelines of who qualifies for the promotion. The OP admitted that he did not qualify.
Tedferg Posted March 5, 2015 #25 Share Posted March 5, 2015 I was in the British Army and I got the veteran's credit too. Automatically applied to next cruise.
