Rare nbsjcruiser Posted March 17, 2015 Author #52 Share Posted March 17, 2015 It is $7.00 pp to ride all day. Yes, you're right. First time we used it it was $4.
LuCruise Posted March 17, 2015 #53 Share Posted March 17, 2015 We hopped the water taxi near the dock and plopped on the beach right next to town. I think they call it Great Bay Beach. Thanks for the quick response. That is one of the beaches on our list. But I've heard of some mention sewage smell. I take it you didn't notice anything? jes Scott Posted March 17, 2015 #55 Share Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Loving the review! It doesn't seem like 8 days since we got back! We went to Carambola brach on St Kitts...it was a newer very nice beach that seemed like a resort. Very nice with all kinds of jet skis etc to rent. It was too windy for umbrellas so we got a "beach bed" for $40 for day which helped keep my DH out of he direct sun. Lunch was pricy, but we realized we could have shared a lunch! Very flavorful and large portions. Best sushi I have had in a long time! We did the Thenford Grey tour and requested the beach drop off and then we got picked up at time of our choice. gaylemh Posted March 17, 2015 #56 Share Posted March 17, 2015 What's the cost to rent chairs and umbrellas at Great Bay Beach? Are there public restrooms available? I had read awhile ago that Great Bay Beach's water was polluted, is that no longer the case?

Rare nbsjcruiser Posted March 17, 2015 Author #61 Share Posted March 17, 2015 So if you've never been up on deck for sailaway from Basseterre St Kitts, you're missing one of the prettiest ports to sail from. The hills and lush landscape make for some beautiful pictures That's the Celebrity Silhouette. One of the prettiest cruise ships I've seen. I had read awhile ago that Great Bay Beach's water was polluted, is that no longer the case? We walked until we saw the nicest umbrellas as well as restaurant - each guy that approaches you will have different umbrellas (and prices). The restaurant behind you typically provides restrooms. And then your guy will deliver drinks/food from that place. We paid 15 for 2 chairs and umbrella. I heard a few people negotiate lower later in the day. Lots of massage, braids, scarves etc being offered. Most are pretty nice if you just say no thanks, or ask their name and tell them you will let them know if you decide later you want something. I didn't notice any pollution. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rare nbsjcruiser Posted March 17, 2015 Author #67 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Our next stop was San Juan. One of my favourite places to visit, we just enjoy walking around, a stop for a beer or a mallorca at a pastry shop - it never gets old for us. Today was no different. We spent the entire time walking, exploring and, like every other visit, we found a new place to explore - Iglesia San Francisco, a catholic church with a basement burial grounds. On to our self guided walking tour.

Rare nbsjcruiser Posted March 18, 2015 Author #72 Share Posted March 18, 2015 Ok, so back to our walking tour of San Juan, in between shifts of shovelling my yard. I really enjoy the bright colors of the buildings. They show up so well in a photo.
Rare nbsjcruiser Posted March 18, 2015 Author #73 Share Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) Now for a few pictures of the little church we found. Iglesia San Francisco. Located on Calle San Francisco, its just up the street from my favourite pastry place, La Bombonera. Sadly La Bombonera is closed now but for all the times we stopped there I'm surprised I never discovered this little gem. The burial crypt below did not appear to be as old as I expected. Next time when we're in San Juan I must have a closer look at the dates of the church building itself. The last picture is the oldest date I was able to find, 1814. Rare nbsjcruiser Posted March 18, 2015 Author #74 Share Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) Back to pounding the pavement again.
