Rebels82 Posted March 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Has anyone been to Tortola recently? If so, how is it? I read from someone a month ago that they were doing work around the pier area and it "would be nice when it was done". Thanks.
cliffd64 Posted March 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2015 YEs they are working at the pier quite a bit. As with anything in the Caribbean, this will be a long term project. That being said, there are lots of great things to do on Tortola :) Visiting Virgin Gorda and The Baths is a must-see if you haven't yet. Cane Garden Bay is a great beach on Tortola, you can easily get a cab to the beach right from outside the terminal. Another great feature of Cane Garden Bay, is the Candlewood Rum Distillery located directly across the street from Cane Garden Bay... It's a 300 year old Rum distillery where their great Arundel 10 year aged Rum is made. It's distilled from Cane Juice as opposed to molasses, and it is simply superb. Stop by and try some free samples and make sure you bring home a few bottles.

Rare mizLORInj Posted March 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Just back from Gem today. We were in Tortola on Tuesday. We were told by the Shore Excursions desk when we spoke up about what a PITA tendering is that a Carnival ship is docking there this week and if that is successful, NCL ships will begin docking as well. Note the pier shops are nowhere near ready, but they think the pier will be.

Hubby has been to the Distillery 2x. You have to go. Not anything like a normal rum factory, but it is an experience!!

I hope we'll be able to dock in Dec. :)
Lcar66 Posted March 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 28, 2015 While in Tortola - stop at one of the local bars and order a painkiller - these are the best in the islands! Oh the rum....
