Mkehlb Posted March 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2015 I know some lines allow parents to sign a form granting permission for their 18-20year olds to drink onboard while in international waters. Does Carnival do this? If so, is there a particular form?
lablover61 Posted March 31, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2015 Carnival does not do this. They have a strictly enforced policy of a 21 year old drinking age Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
falkcor Posted March 31, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2015 Carnival does not do this, however, if you were to order a drink for your adult (18-20) son or daughter and personally hand it to them, you would most likely have no problem, though it is technically against 'the rules'. The punishment can be anything from being cut off to the whole party being kicked off the cruise. They're probably not going to card but don't be 'stupid' either. There have been a few reports of this happening but the pax were beyond pushing the limits. Our 18yo was asked what she wanted at the Mojito bar one cruise. If she wanted it and I put it on my card no one would have batted an eye.
GUT2407 Posted March 31, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2015 It will also depend on where you are sailing, ie in Australia no worries as drinking age is 18.
okgirl Posted March 31, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 31, 2015 It will also depend on where you are sailing, ie in Australia no worries as drinking age is 18. I thought John Heald said that the age is 21 even in Australia when he was asked about this a couple of weeks ago.
Clear Solution Posted March 31, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2015 What happens in the cabin, stays in the cabin. And let's be realistic, if a 18-20 year old wants a drink, they will get it one way or another. Better to be able to control it than to have them out getting booze from strangers. Havingfun2010 Posted March 31, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 31, 2015 My household rules were.....if you can go to the bar and buy it, they you can drink it. Since you can't on the ship, issue solved. In Mexico, it's permitted so issue solved.
mrstriceasnice Posted March 31, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2015 My 20 year old son went on our wedding cruise with us. He could not drink on the ship however since we were in the Bahamas he could drink there. However Carnival would also not sell us the Brewery Tour for him because he was not 21. We ended up going with a local company called Pat and Diane and they have no problem selling us the tour.
lovingCCL Posted March 31, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 31, 2015 My 18 year old daughters were on a cruise with me last January. They sold a drink to one of my girls without saying anything. Therefore, it might not be as strictly enforced (or maybe it depends on the ship).
Elaine5715 Posted March 31, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 31, 2015 After the underage young man died of alcohol after being supplied by family on a Carnival ship, they are less likely to overlook parents ignoring ship rules.
cruiser fanatic Posted March 31, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 31, 2015 No, Carnival does not allow this. However, if you want to give him a drink buy the drink yourself and give it to him. I would take it back to the cabin so nobody would see it.

The OP asked if Carnival has a specific form not what anybody's opinion is regarding underage drinking.
