balf Posted April 14, 2015 #51 Share Posted April 14, 2015 Last summer, on QM2, when a tiny dog peed on the promenade deck. I've never seen a tiny service dog. An escapee from the kennels perhaps. David.
Lady Hudson Posted April 14, 2015 #52 Share Posted April 14, 2015 One that I saw was a chihuahua and the other was slightly larger but I don't know the breed -- could have been mixed. I believe they were "comfort" dogs. I have heard that one can get a certificate online to bring dogs with them specifically for emotional or comfort reasons. Not saying that this is what happened in these two incidents but dogs do seem to be more prevalent on ships these days. Just hope I never see a "comfort" alligator! marge1952 Posted April 14, 2015 Author #53 Share Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) This has been quite an amusing thread! Hope there were some service animals onboard and that is the answer to this mystery. That, I think, we all could live with:) I have actually seen this happen twice before on ships. Last summer, on QM2, when a tiny dog peed on the promenade deck. Then in the fall, on RCI, a tiny dog pooped outside the casino. Both times the owners just kept on walking! Now, I cannot tell you about similar experiences during my 34 years in education. I would not want to be told I am full of ________ as these incidents are hard for anyone outside of the profession to believe. (This is a fill in the blank!):):) Regards. Katherine Hi Katherine. I saw a service dog wee on a deck chair cushion on Sapphire Princess once and the owner didn't even know or stop, but they had vision problems I am fairly certain. Another passenger close by saw the incident and got quite distressed and said they would go and tell the captain because the dog should be going to the toilet inside the cabin! Then she ran off screaming. Not sure why the captain needed to be informed? Marge xo Edited April 14, 2015 by marge1952

KatherineHi Lady Hudson, Not much "comfort" for the rest of us if they are not stopped by their owners from using public areas just as they please. If that is what happened in this case. And how do you decide between genuine, essential, well-trained service dogs... ... and Mrs. Pomfrey-Hartington-Smyth's lap-dog Trixie-Bell "who is my little baby and can't bear to separated from mummy for even a second"? That is why QM2 (uniquely) has kennels, surely? I can see an awful lot of "comfort-certificates" being issued to people with enough money to buy one on-line, no questions asked :( . Best wishes
Lady Hudson Posted April 14, 2015 #55 Share Posted April 14, 2015 Agreed. And I keep myself from oohing and aahing over these animals even though they may be very cute. I just ignore them so not to encourage bringing the animals onboard. Wonder if the dogs need to pay a double or solo supplement occupancy rate???:)
Stevej88 Posted November 25, 2019 #56 Share Posted November 25, 2019 Thanks for sharing your review. QM2 is my favourite ship and I love reading about everyone’s experiences on her. Glad to hear the ‘situation’ was dealt with swiftly and quietly by the crew (I wouldn’t expect anything less from Cunard) and also glad to hear how positive your trip was overall! It’s so great to see actual balanced reviews from real people who understand that nothing in this world is truly ‘perfect’ (even on Cunard) but that doesn’t mean you need to complain about everything. You sound really down to earth. Cheers :)

As a thread ages it's relevance to the present experience will diminish. The OP in this one wrote these comments in 2015 - before the major 2016 refit.
