jagoffee Posted April 8, 2015 #176 Share Posted April 8, 2015 And the long awaited wine list to keep you information hounds happy. Not sure when it finally uploaded and if this link (dropbox) will work. Please note the file is more than 8meg. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2562oyjd07j8ft2/Celebrity%20Summit%20Luminae%20opening%20wine%20li20150406121345595.pdf?dl=0 Happy drinking, err, sailing, Jenna Thank you for posting the list. You sure are taking advantage of you free internet minutes and we appreciate the fact that we benefit. IMO it is impressive list and I am pleased that they have a lot of wines within the PLL package. I was afraid it would be like the recent Murano's wine list that we had that had very few wines $13 or less. Way to go Celebrity.
chamima Posted April 8, 2015 #177 Share Posted April 8, 2015 I have tonight's menu. It looks awesome. Best yet (but if course that is subjective) BUT do to the overnight cruise critic forum problems I can't login with TapTalk...so...you'll have to wait. If someone could let cruise critic know that even though the forums are back TapTalk is not working, that would be splendid. I need to get back to my hard work on the beach at today's paradise location. Happy sailing, Jenna Hopefully I let Cruise Critic know. I am LOVING your postings and would hate to miss something! :D
Rare groryjm Posted April 8, 2015 #178 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Hi Jenna Thanks for all this great info live from the ship. Sooo much better and more efficient then Xs web site for finding out whats available on board:D. I really appreciate being able to vicariously enjoy Luminae in anticipation of our med cruise in July. The food porn has my mouth watering:cool: even my teenage DD thinks she'll enjoy it. (which is high praise indeed) I know you two are dinning elsewhere on the next formal night but if you had a chance to stick your head round the door I would be interested what the dress code is like in MC and Luminae:)
elena7seas Posted April 8, 2015 #179 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Hi Jenna: You are doing a STELLAR job on this Live Report from Luminae. Totally inconsequential question, but could you please let me know how they are pronouncing Luminae on board: is it Lum-in-AY (long A) or Lum-in-EYE (long I). Thanks again for all of the time that you are investing on our behalf. We truly do appreciate it.
need2bespoiled Posted April 8, 2015 Author #180 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Looks like my iPad is working, not sure why my iPhone is not, even after restarting the app, rebooting the phone, logging out of Cruise Critic and TapTalk and logging in again. I'm sure I'll figure it out but it's hard work with a view like this ;) I also snapped a pick of Summit in port today: Everyone is pronouncing it lume in A (the first of the 2). We were told by the current MC concierge on Summit that wine IS included in the minibar, and that was confirmed on a call last week, though she confirmed it was not originally advertised that way. She also said they've eliminated the in suite spa services, which is a disappointment to me as I was looking forward to a massage on my next sailing when we have that big aft balcony and lots of sea days. I understand their reluctance but something could just as easily happen in a treatment room in the spa. And tonight's menu, which is very exciting to us: Finally, a fun shot from the other day, don't take yourselves too seriously! BILLP1 Posted April 8, 2015 #183 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Surprised to see some of the coffee has a price. It would seem to me that if you offer a separate upscale restaurant for suite guests they would offer a drinkable wine as well as after dinner drinks as part of the suite package. need2bespoiled Posted April 8, 2015 Author #184 Share Posted April 8, 2015 If you're in an upper suite, drinkable wine and coffees ARE included. See previous comment or maybe checkout the ongoing drink package thread? If you're in a sky suite, you get the same drinks you would regardless of where you dine, no more' no less, but now you get a more exceptional dining experience. It's really only the CS that is in a land in between that seems a bit odd but it does provide a nice value on some sailings with MC access without RS or higher pricing. elena7seas Posted April 8, 2015 #185 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Hi Jenna: Thanks very much for the reply re: the pronounciation of Luminae. That was my guess, although my rules from high school Latin told me otherwise. :)
need2bespoiled Posted April 8, 2015 Author #186 Share Posted April 8, 2015 I don't know if cruise critic fixed it or my last solution which was to delete and reinstall the app fixed it but I'm back in business via iPhone and heading back into the water. cruiserone Posted April 8, 2015 #191 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Isn't Capt Dimitrios great?! We have had him on three sailings and just love his sense of humor and his availability to all passengers. He is like a the sun on a cloudy day! Loved the photo! Thank you for your reports they have been so informative and interesting. We are looking forward to Luminae on the Summit in two weeks for the TA. Hope that you are enjoying your cruise. Sounds like it!

elena7seas Posted April 9, 2015 #194 Share Posted April 9, 2015 The Latin pronunciation is "Loominay". AE is pronounced as a long A. Actually, the dipthong AE is pronounced differently, depending on whether you are studying Classical or Ecclesiastical Latin. I studied classical Latin, so AE was pronounced "ai" as in aisle. In this clip, they are basically talking about Classical pronunciation of vowels and dipthongs. AE is pronounced as "ai" (or aisle, or "eye" or long I): and also http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Latin/Lesson_2 Fun. I can't remember the last time I had a conversation about Latin. :D:D:D

need2bespoiled Posted April 9, 2015 Author #196 Share Posted April 9, 2015 (edited) Thanks Norma! We made our meal decisions earlier in the day (not long after seeing the menu). The Amuse-Bouche was goat cheese cracker with creme fresh over a spinach leaf. Tasty but not a full bite. Dee started with the liver, she liked it but it's not my thing. I had the octopus. I love properly (read not chewy) grilled octopus and it was very good though part of me is happy for the small portion(s), the other half wanted more. Yes, yes I know I can order more but I never would. It wasn't the best octopus I've had. That goes to a dish I had in Lanzarote. I had the curry second. This was a main course, but I think it was too small for a main but good for my second. It was spicy. Not too spicy for me but it was for Dee. I think as the vegetarian dish on the menu some would find it too spicy. I also appreciated it was fresher and with no sugar as opposed to what you'd often get in Thailand. Dee had the consume. She loves consume. She thought it was a bit strong and a bit salty but she finished it. (remember all soups are served in dry bowl) Next up, mains... need2bespoiled Posted April 9, 2015 Author #198 Share Posted April 9, 2015 (edited) Darlene pasta was rich and way too salty. It could kill someone with high blood pressure. I had the tuna ordered rare. The pictures shows more like medium rare to medium. I wish it was served more as a steak. I think the grill is not hot enough, maybe due to not being gas as they have electric appliances. The Pinot noir sauce was too salty and not needed. Thankfully I had it on the side. . A few more notes as I remember to post and get info. There is one sommelier for the room which seems fine compared to land based restaurants. Drink service is prompt. Overall service is well paced, 90 min to get through main courses tonight. It could be sped up but we've been taking our time and chatting. Staff is very eager for feedback which they are sharing. Menus are coming to the ship last minute from Miami after they're tweaked between onboard chef and Miami but final menus come from corporate for now with the intention this will change. They freely admit their still experimenting and frankly it's been fun to watch. We think there should be a cheese option for dessert. They're not willing to say no to requests but also not ready to deal with many special request. The need doors on the service stations. Tonight pre dessert treat which they call an Amuse-Dessert was a Chopin Vodka Apple sorbet with small chunks of pineapple, mint sprig and chocolate garnish. Best one yet. I had the cheesecake. Which was very good. Dee had coconut cremeux and loved it. The final tidbit I'd take with the typical skepticism of info received on board but we were told instead of the deck 3 galley currently being used a new galley would be carved out of the current pantry space attached to the restaurant. need2bespoiled Posted April 9, 2015 Author #200 Share Posted April 9, 2015 No problem Walter. I'm enjoying posting :) Sorry about the blurry cavatelli pic. Hard to tell what's blurry from my phone and I try to be quick and discrete about the pics. I forgot to post the pic of the Amuse-Dessert. We're lucky enough to vacation often and since I'm self employed can work from almost anywhere with Internet. Better the Celebrity Summit than home right now. We do 1-2 hours of work each morning. Internet has been good this morning which helps. Dee actually asked for breakfast this morning in Luminae instead of our balcony which was a bit shocking so off we go in a bit, once work is done. Today is one of our last beach days, next cruise we'll be spending more time onboard. Rising Sun (built by Larry Ellison, owned by David Geffen) is in Saint Martin this morning. It's bigger than a ship I'm crushing on in Cuba come January. Just an FYI for nautical geeks.
