ddlb Posted April 26, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2015 I check my water and pop and wine (amounts you are allowed) in a suitcase cause I don't want to lug it around. I have never had a problem doing this but you are supposed to do it as a carry on. Not sure what would happen if they took it to the naughty room however since I'm not smugglng in booze. fuddrules Posted April 26, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) Buy a case of water $5 or less and give it a shot. What's the worst that can happen....you lose the case of water. Big Whoop. Best that can happed is you get it through. Very little down side and a case of water on the upside! Much better odds than the Casino and a lot less smokey too. JaneyLynn Posted April 26, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2015 go buy one of those hand carts for staking things... usually in the luggage section of the local Walmart. We bring cases of soda, Monster Energy drinks and water and drag it along without any effort. http://www.walmart.com/ip/TravelKart-Metal-Luggage-Cart-Black/13029467
springs741 Posted April 26, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 26, 2015 The rules are clear. Water, soda and allowed wine are to be carried on. NOT flaming the OP, they were just asking. But I will sound out that it is my opinion that eventually Cruise ships will ban all carry on drinks. Embarkation would go faster as they wouldn't have to inspect each item and they would have to make decisions with anything found in checked luggage. I don't see them allowing a free for all with carry on drinks so the opposite would be to ban.
Elmo31 Posted April 26, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2015 Carry on only.....our friends luggage was by someone else's luggage that had soda in it and the cans exploded. Their clothes were nasty! Sweet Dutch Girl Posted April 26, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 26, 2015 All actions have consequences. Sure you can check your pop/water/wine...the port guy isn't always up to snuff on what is allowed and if the items are in luggage etc. they don't check. But..further down the line and once the suitcase/cases are in the hands of ship personnel they may choose to stop the items from reaching you're room...and if they do so you have no recourse because they are restricted. And, as others have said, suitcases are not treated gently and the chance of an incident with the liquids is pretty high. Besides, if you check cases of liquids they do sit outside your room upon delivery...wonder if any other passenger wants the drinks without the hassle of toting them on board themselves. bluehenfan Posted April 26, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 26, 2015 Carry on only.....our friends luggage was by someone else's luggage that had soda in it and the cans exploded. Their clothes were nasty! I'm sure you wouldn't want your vacation to start off with ruined clothes :( This happened to my friend on our last cruise. When our luggage came to our room she had some of her clothes in a canvas duffle bag. Another guest's soda had leaked through and we spent the 1st evening doing laundry. Her bag and everything in it were soaked in cola. We ended up washing her stuff twice trying to get brown soda stain out, but they looked awful. Book she'd packed was wet too. In first port we had to shop for a new bag so she'd have something to carry her stained clothes off the ship. The original bag was sticky and never did dry well, so she threw it out. Not trying to flame OP or anyone else, but please - rules are rules for a reason. Carry on your wine, sodas and water.
winddawn Posted April 26, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 26, 2015 At Port Canaveral can you check a case of water or do you have to carry it on? According to Carnival's rules, you are not allowed to check beverages. They must be carried on. The obvious reason is to prevent leakage onto other luggage. You can imagine how it would feel for your luggage to be delivered to your cabin on embarkation day soaking wet. But lugging around heavy drinks on embarkation day isn't my idea of vacation fun. I'm there to relax! My preference is to preorder water from the Carnival Fun Shop and it will be waiting for me in my cabin on embarkation day. I pack a small collapsible cooler in the outer pocket of my suitcase and the cabin steward keeps ice in it for me so I have cold water throughout my cruise. My cooler has a Velcro opening on top to reach in and grab a bottle without having to unzip it. I store it under the sink in the cabin's bathroom in case there are drips. http://www.carnival.com/FunShops/beverages/water Have a great cruise. Carnival is giving the privilege of being able to save a little $ by carrying on a 12pk of non-alcoholic beverages per person. The savings could be quite significant for a large family. The trade-off is that you are required to carry it on. Trying to bend the rules for personal comfort could only result in having the privilege be taken away for everyone which will result in having to buy pop and water at on-board prices. Save money and carry your own water on..... -OR- order a case of water from Bon-Voyage ..... -OR- buy each bottle as a single on the ship. . cruizinisthebest Posted April 26, 2015 #14 Share Posted April 26, 2015 Rules state you should carry the case of water if you must bring it. The porters are handling thousands of bags. Yours with water in it could wind up with the bottles leaking or coming open all together and then wet up someone else's things. Just roll it on with you in small carry on bag. Or they sell carts with bungee cords that you can use for your water/soda. I got one last month for $14. Not need to roll the dice on something with an easy solution. pohlerbear Posted April 26, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 26, 2015 I have to drink a lot of water due to bladder issues. I was very concerned prior to my first cruise. I learned that the water on the ship is fine. I bought a few water bottles with a hook and clipped one to my cross body. I filled them up at the buffet (using a buffet cup...putting the water bottle on the dispenser is frowned upon) morning and night. I will never lug water on again. leela8 Posted April 26, 2015 Author #16 Share Posted April 26, 2015 I read on numerous posts that people just slapped a luggage tag on a case of water and checked it. I was asking if that happened to be at Port Canaveral. I know in Tampa the porters will not take it.
sharonny Posted April 26, 2015 #17 Share Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) I know they say the water is fine on the ship and I did drink plenty in the dining room and it was good but I also brought a Brita bottle and drank lots of ice water throughout the cruise and on excursions. Much easier than lugging water on. PS: I'd be pissed if my clothes and luggage were ruined because of someones idiocy. Sweet Dutch Girl Posted April 26, 2015 #19 Share Posted April 26, 2015 As an aside...I hope people realize that the water in 90% of purchased water bottles is nothing more than tap water run through the exact same filtering system that is used to filter water on a cruise ship. And, water does have a taste based on its chemical make-up (some even smell). If the taste of ship's water isn't to your standards just add some citrus (lemon, limes, orange segments) to the water or a tablespoon of lemonade. A purchased refillable water bottle (Costco has some really cool ones) and you are good to go.
djcass4199 Posted April 26, 2015 #20 Share Posted April 26, 2015 I'd be livid if my luggage was soaked because someone else ignored the rules and checked a case with soda/water/etc. and it leaked and ruined my suitcase. Not livid at Carnival, livid at the person whose case leaked. Please carry on your case of water.
