hdowney Posted April 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Hi. So I am wondering. The Sailaway drink and the DOD, are they included if you have the UDP? Since they are cocktails and cocktails are included? I know if they are in the souvenir glass they won't be but I presume you can get/ask to get them in a regular glass. Thanks. H. cliffd64 Posted April 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Yes, as long as the price is less than 11 dollars.
spidybabe Posted April 27, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) Question : If you have UBP and order a drink while still in port (NY) you need to pay tax + 18%...correct? Edited April 27, 2015 by spidybabe
2red4u Posted April 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2015 To add on to above question, how about any US port? We are sailing out of Seattle.
Guindalf Posted April 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2015 No 18%, just the state tax if applicable. The only ones we know about for sure are Miami and New Orleans (plus Europe's VAT).
TifffanyD Posted April 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Question : If you have UBP and order a drink while still in port (NY) you need to pay tax + 18%...correct? Just tax... the gratuity is included whether you're in port or not. And this is the case when you are still in any port - not just NY

lbrandon Posted April 27, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 27, 2015 If you want the souvenir glass you have to pay for the glass. The drink itself is included.
triptolemus Posted April 27, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Yes, as long as the price is less than 11 dollars. Now, anything over $11, passenger pays the difference. This changed a few weeks ago. No 18%, just the state tax if applicable. The only ones we know about for sure are Miami and New Orleans (plus Europe's VAT). Add Texas to that list. Kreativ' Gal Posted April 29, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Just tax... the gratuity is included whether you're in port or not. And this is the case when you are still in any port - not just NY Just to clarify, my cruise is NY/FL/Bahamas - so you're saying when we are in port for the day (NY & FL), we will have to pay tax on drinks? Since I have the UBP I'm guessing tax is based on the orig price (ex. $10.50 martini)..right? And, is this something that is billed to your room, or can you pay with cash? Newbie here, have not yet cruised in this lifetime. :o

And this is the case when you are still in any port - not just NY Pretty sure it's not every port. I was recently sipping beverages on the UBP while docked in Los Angelss and there were no taxes charged to my account. I'm sure there are specific rules for each state, but I don't know what they are.
rochelle_s Posted April 29, 2015 #14 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Just to clarify' date=' my cruise is NY/FL/Bahamas - so you're saying when we are in port for the day (NY & FL), we will have to pay tax on drinks? Newbie here, have not yet cruised in this lifetime. :o[/quote'] There are only two ways to use cash on board...to tip extra if you so choose or in the casino. Everything else is charged to your ship board account. Each person in the room will have their own ship board account which is accessed through your room key card. Everyone's key card will keep track of individual charges but they can all be linked to the same credit card for payment purposes. I was on the Gem in October doing the same itinerary NY, FL & Bahamas. I never had any charges on my account for taxes. If tax were applicable it would indeed be based on the original drink price. Hope that helps a little and I also wish for you an amazing first cruise! I went on my first cruise in 1989 and I still get excited before a cruise but nothing will compare to the anticipation of that first one. Enjoy!!
