icat2000 Posted April 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2015 I read this in our local newspaper and thought my share to give people the option to decided what to do if they visit Greece in the future Travellers heading to Greece are being advised to take their euros in notes and coins in case the escalating debt crisis prompts the country's banks to switch off their cash machines. WIth the European summer looming, the Greek tourist board in London said that while it anticipated no immediate problems, visitors should avoid relying solely on credit cards or local ATMs. Travellers should take "enough money to cover emergencies and any unexpected delays", the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office states. http://www.canberratimes.com.au/money/saving/tourists-told-to-take-hard-cash-to-greece-20150429-1mvr5s.html

zqvol Posted April 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Interesting article but if Greece opts to exit the Euro, having them won't do you any good. Better stock up on Drachmas.
Ladytainn Posted April 29, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2015 The report was in The Age, Melbourne newspaper, quoted as being from the Telegraph (UK)
LondonTowner Posted April 30, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 30, 2015 I really can't see that having much impact on cruise passengers. Surely if you are cruising around the Greek islands and visiting a few different island you will have some Euros with you anyway.
