MS Amsterdam - Sail Away - Tues, May 12

Recommended Posts

I just caught the very end of the sail away - my computer is not behaving! Hopefully all will be well by the time of the next HAL sail away! I didn't hear the toots! Oh well, we had our share on the Sail Away Cruise, didn't we?

we sure did. the standard toots today.

Nothing to compare to the Queen that we were on, but the Amsterdam is still elegant.

I hate to tell you this, but this is the last HAL sail away until the next season.

have a great summer Ann :)

pretty much the identical itinerary that we just did on the Westerdam.

It was a really nice itinerary and some of the ports have some big surprises :)

I hope everyone on board has a great a time as we did.

Just loved seeing this! She is doing exactly what she did when I was aboard her in January, 2008. After leaving Port Everglades, turning South as we sailed by Miami. I still can see the lights of the Gold Coast as I enjoyed my first dinner in the dining room!

Same itinerary as Noordam last 2 weeks; visiting Leon, Nicaragua was a plus

Leon is really nice - we really enjoyed it - people that remained on the ship really missed a truly great experience - my big plus was Guatemala, Antigua and the Children's School but there are different reasons for that I guess :)

I'm totally amazed every time I see a ship either pivot or go in reverse. I'd be knocking everything out of my way! LOL

Some of the best aircraft carrier footage I've ever seen is a carrier (can't remember the name) in WWII doing a high speed turn to avoid a torpedo broadside, her deck nearly touched the water. It's incredible to realize those gigantic ships can be that nimble when they need to be.

That said, I don't expect Amsterdam to have to avoid any torpedoes. :D

That had to be a once in a lifetime experience for y'all; saw your pics with the smiling kids faces and crying teacher; awesome! Had to stay onboard in Quetzal

Were you on the Westerdam Copper?

It was an amazing experience. I don't think there was a member there who had helped that didn't have a dry eye at one stage or another. Those children were so amazing.. Normally they would be working at age 6! They are making a new world :)

and their teacher is incredible. Absolutely incredible. working hours to teach them, helping to build the new part for the school and teaching them the dances. She must work on love because no one has this much energy.

No stop in Victoria, it seems. Are we out of favour with HAL?

Actually we enjoyed Long Beach the one time we stopped there, it's a great place to walk along the beach!:)

Yeah, plus the Queen Mary is right there also; however, the other L.A. port, San Pedro, has been vacant of dam ships for a while and even LB does not get a lot of HAL sips anymore

Yes, we were on a Cunard ship that time. We haven't been to San Pedro. But all of California is nice.:)

We need some Calif coastal voyages; San Diego, Catalina Island/Avalon, L.A., Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, SF and a return to Ensenada to satisfy the ancient and obsolete Pax Service Act
