2red4u Posted May 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 23, 2015 I'm a bit confused about booking concierge. We book the Haven and have a Concierge and I think all suites , regardless of Haven or not, get it. We mainly used him to get off the ship quickly at ports. We had asked for certain reservations but he was unable to do it. But I think different ships at different sailings have different experiences. Maybe be a bit more specific to which ship and time of year and you will have more help. DMH15 Posted May 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 23, 2015 What are some of the advantages and perks to sailing concierge? Is there early boarding? Do you mean booking suite/haven? Those come with a butler and concierge.
GoAndHaveFun Posted May 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 23, 2015 If you are talking about booking a suite (be it non-Haven suites or Haven suites), yes you do get priority embarkation in which the butler takes you to your room. Furthermore, being in a suite (thus having access to concierge) also gives you priority tendering and disembarkation. If you are asking about the perks of having access to concierge, perks include being able to book specialty dining through him/her (concierge can you booked into busy time) or book excursions for you. bbryan5 Posted May 23, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 23, 2015 (edited) I've only sailed in a suite once, it was an Aft facing Penthouse on the Dawn. To be completely honest, I thought the "perk" of having a concierge was no big deal. She couldn't get me reservations at 2 different places, which was disappointing. I'm one of the rare ones that think suites are over-rated. I asked our butler for nachos and salsa one night and he couldn't come up with them. When I ordered buffalo wings from the butler, I asked approx how long they would take, his reply was "I'm not sure, I'm not the one making them" with a bit of an attitude. It just wasn't the experience I expected. I won't be rushing to book a suite anytime soon. Remember, this is MY experience, and MY opinions. I know a lot of you won't agree, but everyone has different experiences. Edited May 23, 2015 by bbryan5

That should have been followed with a call by you to the Hotel Director. Back to the topic... The Concierge can be a very helpful asset in many more things than just dining reservations. They are problem-fixers, dealing with anything on your ship outside your cabin. Let them sweat the details... they are trained for that and you paid for that service. 15yearsandwaiting Posted May 23, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Anone know how the butlers and concierge are on the Dawn. I am in the DOS. The person that just posted didn't seem impressed with service. We loved Theresa on the Jewel

Cruisin&Relaxin Posted May 23, 2015 #10 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Do guests have access to the Hotel Director's telephone extension or do they have to go through the concierge to reach him? I would think one just has to call the guest services desk and ask to be connected to the Hotel Director or request that the Hotel Director contact you. computerworks Posted May 23, 2015 #11 Share Posted May 23, 2015 (edited) Do guests have access to the Hotel Director's telephone extension or do they have to go through the concierge to reach him? It is posted at the Guest Services desk... Usually the HD's extension is 8888 ...most HDs have a drop box there for messages to them as well. They DO want to know about any issues while you are still onboard. Edited May 23, 2015 by computerworks
rvsullivan Posted May 23, 2015 #12 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Do guests have access to the Hotel Director's telephone extension or do they have to go through the concierge to reach him? Just dial 8888 on any NCL ship and you will direct connect to the HD.
Linda the Book Lover Posted May 23, 2015 #13 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Kohara, We enjoyed loge seating for the shows, restaurant reservations changed (one night twice--enjoying the suite party too much!), bridge visit, and then the usual suite perks of priority embarking and disembarking. I sthere something you wanted to know in particular?
dexddd Posted May 24, 2015 #14 Share Posted May 24, 2015 If you go to the cruise critic meet and greet you get lots if numbers. We've had that in the past but last year on the BA this was not the case. Actually the HD introduced a few staff, answered 3 questions and they got out of there as fast as they could. travelrevealed Posted May 24, 2015 #15 Share Posted May 24, 2015 I think of them like a concierge at a hotel in many ways. They can make reservations, coordinate excursions, recommend restaurants and shopping venues at port, answer questions about the ports, and at ports where it matters, get you off the ship with priority. Regarding reservations, they can not create seats in a restaurant when they are already full or kick someone out for you, so cannot always get you a reservation; I have found that if you know what spa or restaurant reservations you want and when you want them as soon as you get on the ship or earlier, they can usually make it happen--saves you the leg work is all... mommyto2kids Posted May 24, 2015 #16 Share Posted May 24, 2015 Wondering if OP is referring to benefits of booking a suite? I know DCL refers to their suites as concierge in the same way NCL refers to the Haven, private area etc.
KweezyCruiser Posted May 24, 2015 #17 Share Posted May 24, 2015 Last year we got a notice that we had failed to attend the muster drill (not true) and we had to attend the make up. Told the concierge and he told us not to worry (or attend) and the next time we saw him he told us that it was taken care of. No trip to guest services, no standing in line, no trying to convince someone (and, invariably, someone's supervisor). Little things like this add to the pleasure of cruising in a suite. I have seen the hotel concierge at their post. And although helpful, no comparison to the NCL concierges. They are visible all iver the ship. DrNora Posted May 24, 2015 #21 Share Posted May 24, 2015 To kohara- the OP You are in a mini suite according to the next thread you started Nothing in THIS thread applies to your mini suite Did you book online , with a Personal cruise consultant it with a travel agent? A mini suite does not get any suite benefits. A mini suite is a balcony cabin with more space and an upgraded bathroom. The moniker "mini- SUITE" is misleading .
