denatravels Posted May 25, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2015 I have purchased a cruise line transfer to the airport since lovely United Airlines changed my flight from 1pm to 11:30am. How does this work getting off? Do I walk off or leave luggage outside? Is there some "guarantee" that they will get you there on time (or deal with the ramifications if they don't)-- or am I on my own if I miss my flight? Royal says the earliest flight is 10:50 but I'm still a little nervous.
griffy116 Posted May 25, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2015 Rome is the easiest and fastest debarkation we've ever experienced, but on our cruise, some debarked in Barcelona and some in Rome. Our luggage was easy to spot and waiting when we got off the ship. We didn't have to wait on others as we had a private driver waiting on us and we were going back to Rome for one more day and night before our flight home. That is a really tight schedule. Are your flights through Choice Air? I would at least call and check with the cruise line and ask both about the flight time and about the transfer getting out of the port on time. Is there another flight later in the day that you could choose? My concern would be any delay caused by others who would be sharing the transfer holding me up, as well as any traffic problem since the airport is (I think) about a 45-60 minute ride from the port. FTLcruisers Posted May 25, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2015 when you purchase a transfer through the cruiseline, they will get you there on time. You will get luggage tags that coordinate with the time you'll need to get off the ship so yes, you'll put your luggage out the night before. Everything is pretty much the same as any other disembarkation. Marianne

suekay Posted May 25, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2015 We've done self disembarkation, non-self disembarkation, private transfer and cruiseline transfers from Civitavecchia, and all our flights were before 11.30am. Never had a problem in any of our cruises
Trekker954 Posted May 25, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 25, 2015 In October we had a 9:45 am. flight and made it, we used a private transfer who was to meet us at 6:00 a.m.. We were in a suite and were to self depart and be the "first" off the ship with the concierge escort. By the time he escorted us to the gangway, RCL already had an entire bus loaded and heading to the airport and loading a second one. So if RCL said they'd have you there in time, they will. There seemed to be quite a few folks already disembarked getting into buses, and limos. Its very complicated clearing security in FCO airport if you are going to the U.S.on a US operated carrier. If it's a direct flight to the US on a US-operated carrier, it departs from Terminal 5, and entails extra security. After security, you're bused to Terminal 3. So allow a little more time if that is your scenario.
critterchick Posted May 25, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2015 I recommend that you check your Roll Call to see if anybody is interested in sharing a private transfer. We did that last year - were off the ship by 6:30 and our driver was waiting for us. We were checking in with AA By 8:30 or so, maybe even earlier than that. I think that you'll be fine timing-wise with the RCI transfer, but sharing a van might be a lot less expensive. You can research options on the Ports of Call threads. One or two companies are prominently featured.
