jlcd66 Posted May 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2015 Hoping to cruise again next spring, possibly on the Escape. Our son will be a High School Senior at the time but will have turned 18. He will therefore not be allowed in the teen club and their activities which he has always enjoyed even though he is still in High School. Are there any activities for this age group so he can meet others to hang out with? Wondering if we should consider something other than a cruise... minnesotamamafish Posted May 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2015 Have him go the the first night Entourage meet and greet and bring his high school ID. They may let him in because he's still in highschool. Or they may at least let him stay to meet everyone to make some friends. I've heard a lot of the teenagers just meet up all over the ship once they know each other and don't necessarily go to the scheduled activities. They have the IConcierge app that you can text/call anyone on the ship for a flat $7.95, so he can keep up with what his new friends are doing. You register at guest services and get a personal phone number. Be sure to download the app before leaving port. (You may want to download it as well so you can keep up with wherever he is!) Definitely still go on the cruise! There will also be many others in the 18-20 year old range that he can meet just striking up conversations in Spice H2O, trivia, etc. Not to mention all us "older" adults happy to chat and maybe do the ropes course or mini golf. There will be so many options to meet people and so much to do. It will give him good practice for life, and I bet he will never feel lonely! (And how often does he get to go to the British and US Virgin Islands!) Also, I would look here to see an example of the activities onboard to get an idea what will be available. It is for the Getaway, but they should be similar. http://www.beyondships2.com/norwegian-getaway-daily-programs.html Good luck!
roger001 Posted May 28, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2015 When I was 18, I would not have wanted to go. But otherwise, hang out at the pool and look at girls.

On NCL, sign the drink waiver so he can drink beer and give him casino allowance and you'll be the best parents ever. Make it his "early" graduation present. He's sure to meet 18-25 year olds at Spice H20. Also allow him to eat a few nights at his leisure and not as a family.

cynbar Posted May 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 28, 2015 I think it depends on his personality. If he is outgoing, he's have a better chance of meeting up with other 18-20 year olds around the ship. Alternatively, if he will be OK even without a lot of teens to hang with, spending time with you and enjoying all the ship has to offer, he'll have a fun cruise even without the teen program. But if he's a little shy and will only be happy if has others his age to hang round with, maybe this would be the year to try a different type of vacation. MCAT48 Posted May 28, 2015 #9 Share Posted May 28, 2015 They have an 18-21 year old meetup/party at some point in the beginning of the cruise. Make him goto that to meet some people.
jlcd66 Posted May 29, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted May 29, 2015 Thanks for the replies. Is Spice H2O a night club? He's more of a sports Kid.
wichitastatecruiser Posted May 29, 2015 #11 Share Posted May 29, 2015 Spice H20 is an adults only area by day and night club by night. If he's into basketball he should be able to find pick up games or just shoot around on the sports deck.
texangal39 Posted May 29, 2015 #12 Share Posted May 29, 2015 Glad I found this thread. We are taking our 17 y/o as an early graduation present on the Escape in November. She turns 18 right before we leave to go on the cruise, so no Entourage for her. I have been concerned about her being bored and not having anyone to hang with besides us "old folk". I will keep watching for ideas on how to hook her up with kids her age.
