irishgirltravels Posted June 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2015 Have you tried an inside cabin and did you enjoy the experience? Is it something you would do again to save money?
Rare steamboats Posted June 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 6, 2015 Let´s say it like this, the regular outside cabins are cozy, the insides are even cozier... We once booked a triple inside but glady were upgraded to a very large outside (as the boat wasn´t fully booked). steamboats
kokopelli-az Posted June 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 6, 2015 We had a single friend who was traveling with us (Memphis-New Orleans) and she booked an inside cabin and was perfectly happy with it. She said it was dark (ie, no windows) at night but that was fine with her.
irishgirltravels Posted June 6, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted June 6, 2015 Thanks! We've booked back to back cruises from Memphis to Cincinnati and don't mind cozy. I'll pack earplugs and leave the eye mask behind. :)
riversights Posted June 7, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2015 What we want to know is will the cicadas sing? We bought cheap air from the West Coast just to hear the cicadas churr and see the fireflies caper along the Mississippi.:D
biker1972 Posted June 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 9, 2015 We had an inside last fall at an incredible price from Memphis to NO. Would I do it again? Yes but it would have to be at a really incredible price and only if it were the only thing left. My concern with the American Queen was service in the JM White dining room and the demand for first seating because second seating is so late. irishgirltravels Posted July 23, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted July 23, 2015 We managed quite well with an inside cabin on the Texas deck. Loved the proximity to the Front Porch Cafe and fresh coffee each morning. What an amazing way to relax for two weks!
riversights Posted July 23, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 23, 2015 Inside staterooms are a secret sweet deal. Do you really have to spend wads of cash for a spacious suite in order to enjoy a steamboat voyage? No, baby, the bargain is in the perception of value. Inside staterooms get the same conscientious service, the same chocolates on the pillow, and you don't have to walk a slippery deck after a rain squall to get to breakfast. Save your cash to spend on a new pair of shoes at Henderson.:D
njhoo Posted July 28, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Our first AQ we were in an outside on the upper Mississippi and as a light sleeper found the exterior noise a bit loud - try waiting to enter a lock late at night with the constant freight trains rolling by. In March we grabbed one of the last remaining cabins at the last minute on a NO to Memphis run. It was an inside and we knew it was going to be tight. The price was very good and we had to work out the logistics of moving around the room, and we succeeded okay. Found it to be nice and quiet and we carried a low wattage night light with us that we used in the bathroom at night. Overall we did okay with the experience and would do it again for the right price.
