Pinnacle Suite Worth It?

Do you mean one with a cushion?

What do you get in a NS, just a plastic/mesh backed deck lounger?

We've sailed Princess once thus far - and I can't say we're in any hurry to return. We had an aft suite on the Caribbean Princess, and though the cabin/balcony were nice I didn't get a warm cozy feeling from Princess otherwise.

The first night, dining in their steakhouse (forget the name), Cheryl ordered a bottle of sparkling water. Before we even placed our dinner order they had to get our ship card to go ahead and run the charge for the water. I asked why they couldn't just "run a tab" for the entire meal. The answer was "this is the way we always do it."

Ordering a Grey Goose and Diet Sprite in ALL lounges resulted in the same event: We were charged for the drink AND a can of soda, as "our soda guns don't have Diet Sprite, so we have to charge additional for the can".

I could go on, but have to go to WORK ! ;)

You may be in for a disappointment with Hal because they generally do the same thing when you order a drink or wine on Hal.

Do you mean they piecemeal you in their specialty restaurant AND charge extra for the mixer in lounges/bars? Gives new meaning to "mixed" drink!

Perhaps it's just something that lines owned by Carnival do (with the exception of Carnival itself). I've seen none of this on NCL, Celebrity, or Royal Caribbean.

I'm not sure about the drink and diet soda question because it's not something I drink. They will ask for your card for the drink portion at some point in the meal likely at ordering. I've been on celebrity but it's been a while but I didn't think it was all that different.

I appreciate the info.

That is, to me at least, just STRANGE. Like they're sweating the little stuff - almost implying that "if nothing else, and you DIE during your meal, at least we'll have that charge logged into the system." !

They have to run each drink as its ordered, they don't have an ability to set up a tab (and frankly I wouldn't trust a cruiseline to do so). I've never been on a cruise where this wasn't the case.

I agree that in lounges/bars/etc that's pretty much the case. However, in literally hundreds of specialty dining experiences on multiple lines, the ONLY place where we've had to sign before or during the meal has been on Princess. Granted, on other lines, there will likely be two checks - one for the dinner, and one for the bar.

It really doesn't bother me. If this was the biggest issue I have on a cruise I'll be delighted. I understand that others are different. The thing that kinda bugged me on princess when I bought a bottle of wine is when I had it for a couple of nights. They asked to see my card every night before they got it. That was annoying.

I agree, we have considered Seaboard, Silversea, etc., and we have sailed on what is now Regent (got a really favorable fare for a Bermuda 7 day). Loved Regent, but we really prefer the big ship feel, and we don't drink outrageous amounts. We book suites with Neptune access, the service is superior. We do the same upgrades you do, love the Retreat cabanas and Pinnacle Grill. For this, you get the big ship feel, with a very high level of service and attention.

Wow, no wonder I agree, noticed I was responding to myself. Oops, sorry!

Wow. I have ordered a bacardi and coke many times, and never been charged for the coke on HAL.

I'd guess that's because they have coke in their soda "gun". Apparently, if they have to open a can (something that's not in their gun), Princess is going to charge you for it.
