Educators2 Posted June 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2015 Our cruise is departing Barcelona on October 12. We have our air and hotel but just realized it is a national holiday in Spain. Ever since they changed Columbus Day to a Monday in the U.S., I didn't think that is was anything to consider when I booked the cruise. Perhaps someone who has spent time in Barcelona knows what to expect on that day in terms of taxis, at
Educators2 Posted June 16, 2015 Author #2 Share Posted June 16, 2015 Somehow I missed seeing a previous post and this got posted before I finished my question. Are markets and attractions open in Barcelona on October 12? Sorry about double post.
MADflyer Posted June 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2015 One place I always turn, especially some the decisions around official holidays are variable from one Spanish region to another is to turn to the opening hours of 'El Corte Ingles' department store. Other stores tend to follow this same schedule, but more high end boutiques might be closed along with some galleries and the like. El Corte Ingles plans to be open on the 12th of October. Here are the upcoming Sunday/Holiday opening hours for the store at Plaza Catalunya: Festivos y días con horarios especiales - Holidays with special opening hours. El día 24/06/2015 cerrado *closed El día 05/07/2015 de 09:30 a 21:30 El día 15/08/2015 cerrado El día 11/09/2015 cerrado El día 24/09/2015 cerrado El día 12/10/2015 de 09:30 a 21:30 El día 01/11/2015 de 09:30 a 21:30 El día 29/11/2015 de 09:30 a 21:30 El día 06/12/2015 de 09:30 a 21:30 El día 08/12/2015 de 09:30 a 21:30 El día 13/12/2015 de 09:30 a 21:30 El día 20/12/2015 de 09:30 a 21:30 El día 25/12/2015 cerrado El día 26/12/2015 cerrado It appears that is actually a Monday this year and some museums can choose that as there one closing day during the week on occasion. Hours can be checked for each site at http://www.spain.info You will have no problem with taxis on a holiday in Spain, but will pay the higher tariff on the meter as if it were a Sunday. MADflyer Posted June 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2015 I would not think that la Boqueria market would be open, but some stalls may open in the morning if El Corte Ingles is open, I just do not know.
