Newbie ready to plunge Posted June 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Is there a way to use an AT&T iPhone 6+ on the NCL Pearl sailing to Alaska and Victoria, BC without incurring Cellular at Sea/Internet charges providing the phone has an international plan and the ship is within range of other cell phone towers? triptolemus Posted June 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2015 The ship will not be within range of land based cell towers while underway for any considerable time. You will have land based cell service while in each of the ports, and while underway during portions of the inner transits near Ketchikan and Juneau. Newbie ready to plunge Posted June 29, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Is the Cellular at Sea turned off while in range to other towers? Or, would we just need to turn off roaming on our phones? We have an international package so I'm not worried about incurring those charges. triptolemus Posted June 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Yes - they typically deactivate the ship's cell tower while in (and approaching) port. This has more to do with FCC/IC regulations than customer convenience.
CRUZIN TOM Posted June 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2015 You will be using the ships cell tower while at sea. You will be charged about a dollar a minute, plus roaming charges. Can get quite expensive. When in port, you will use the local cell towers. They have both AT&T and Verizon.
