LORRAINE45 Posted July 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2015 Hi do uk passengers ever get an up- sell offer via travel agent? Thank you.
heatherb1958 Posted July 18, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2015 I have only ever heard of one, a couple I met through CC, it was on the Serenade Suez trip. They were orginally in either a GS or OS and he received a call offering the Royal suite for X£. It was her first cruise and he thought what the heck. I have purposely not mentioned names. We had a wonderful sailaway with them on their balcony at one port. We are budget travellers, never knowingly throw money away so it is highly unlikely to ever happen to us;):D
sandancer Posted July 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2015 Don't think so. In 17 cruises on Royal we have never been offered an upsell or been upgraded.
Jeannie333333 Posted July 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2015 nope never had a up-sell call. Very disappointing, as it seems to happen a lot across the pond. :(
mus1cals Posted July 18, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2015 Had one last year on the Independence but not through a travel agent. 200 dollars to upgrade from a D2 to a Junior Suite.
Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted July 18, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2015 nope never had a up-sell call. Very disappointing, as it seems to happen a lot across the pond. :( I bet it happens less than you think. Those that get an upsell or a visit from the upgrade fairy want to tell everyone. [i would, too :D] But, :it is pretty rare, We have never been upgrade or had a call for an upsell on Royal or Celebrity. We did get an upsell from Carnival years ago when we stil sailed them. sandancer Posted July 18, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 18, 2015 That's good. I hope it happens before our next RCI cruise.
genslim47 Posted July 19, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 19, 2015 Hi there I seem to be the exception, we booked a grand suite on Indy and was up graded to an owners. The couple that should have had that suite were upgraded to the royal suite.
nelly55 Posted July 19, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 19, 2015 We were recently offered an "upsell" on Explorer from GS to RFS. We declined but would have been £200 for the 2 of us for 14 nights.
Rare Deeliteful Posted July 19, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 19, 2015 I was upgraded on my first ever RC cruise from inside to OV. Not happened since though :-(
Merly Posted July 19, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 19, 2015 Been upgraded from balcony to RFS ( just the 2 of us) and from balcony to JS.
heatherb1958 Posted July 19, 2015 #13 Share Posted July 19, 2015 Been upgraded from balcony to RFS ( just the 2 of us) and from balcony to JS. Did they call you and ask for a Sterling contribution? ;) That is what the OP's question is. We have had a couple of free upgrades but never a phone call asking if we are prepared to pay X£ to upgrade.

I thought they had only recently started the paid upgrades as apposed to free.
heatherb1958 Posted July 21, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 21, 2015 (edited) No we didn't have to pay. I thought they had only recently started the paid upgrades as apposed to free. The Serenade cruise I mentioned in my earlier post was Jan 2013 . Personally I think it is mainly going to happen to guests with balconies to move up to empty suites . Rare NorbertsNiece Posted July 21, 2015 #16 Share Posted July 21, 2015 I've asked for and had a paid upgrade (£80) from an inside to a balcony on Oasis. I've had a different TA suggest I cancel booked cruise. Rebook same cruise. Same room. Get OBC, Select Drinks Package and include grats for over £100 saving (and that included losing the original deposit!!) No brainer.
