Bama Fan Posted July 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2015 We were finally ready to book Aug 23 cruise out of New Orleans when all of the rooms above Main were sold out except for Balcony (we were looking at inside). I assume we waited a day too late and they assigned guarantee rooms. Will there be any more rooms open up this late or should we just book what we can get now? Any ideas? clackey Posted July 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2015 You might check with the larger online TA 's. I have found cabins available on one site that was not listed on another. Google cheap cruises or last minute cruises and see what comes up. Good luck.
lizardhowson Posted July 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2015 No way to accurately answer your question. It is possible additional cabins might become available. Keep checking if you are still interested in that cruise.
Rare skittl1321 Posted July 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2015 I'd just keep checking. We waited too long to book for my travel companions. They wanted the lowest category ocean view, and we were looking at it in the morning; booked in the afternoon, and it was gone- had to pay a few hundred more to get the next category up. A bit of a budget hit :( Do you have to stay above Main? I'm usually a balcony girl, but I've had an oceanview on the Riveria and it was nice. HawksFan74 Posted July 23, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 23, 2015 If you want a specific room location, then one month out is way too late to book IMO. I booked nearly 6 months out for our December cruise, and my preferred location (Deck 7 balcony) was already sold out.
momof1son Posted July 23, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2015 I would personally call a PVP. Everytime I've looked at cruises, it has shown very few rooms available, and every time I have called my PVP, there have been rooms available that the websites said were not. Can't hurt to try, anyway.
Towel Critter Posted July 23, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 23, 2015 Keep looking. Call, both Carnival and other travel agencies. If a category is sold out at one place, that doesn't mean it is necessarily sold out at all. Also, sometimes there are cancelations and/or rooms being held back. I've seen 100% sold out cruises suddenly reappear shortly before the sail date. Good luck.
dmdiver Posted July 23, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 23, 2015 I would call - I was looking at a cruise once that showed no cabins on Lido, but when I called, the CCL rep said there were several available. I have heard that only 10 are ever shown online, but more are sometimes available. Still may not get what you want, but nothing lost by calling. Sooner-Cruisers Posted July 23, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 23, 2015 We were just in an ocean view on the riviera deck, no problems at all. In fact, we just booked on it again.
Stallion Posted July 23, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 23, 2015 (edited) I would wait a day or 2, those cabins could be only on courtesy hold-I've seen prices and availability jump around within 24 day availability. ALSO, very often a cabin could open up because someone on the ship upgrades. In any case, as long as I'm on the ship I can be flexible. August 23 usually favors the passenger. BTW how many passengers? With 3 or more I've been noticing that a Balcony is often cheaper than inside categories with the More the Merrier Sale. I'm going on the Dream the week before so I've been checking a similar cruise-a bunch Edited July 23, 2015 by Stallion
Bama Fan Posted July 23, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted July 23, 2015 Thanks for all the posts. I'll keep watching to see if any open up. If not, I'll call and check. I tried the "last minute cruise" sites and nothing so far. We don't mind the Riveria or Main but would prefer higher. It looks like we may have to take what we can get...... It doesn't really matter as long as we're on the ship when it sets sail.
Sparky2 Posted July 23, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 23, 2015 We were just in an ocean view on the riviera deck, no problems at all. In fact, we just booked on it again. We also love to book Riviera Deck. One floor down to get off ship in ports. We don't have to wait for elevator when get back on ship, especially if there are lots of people coming back at the same time. Only 2 floors up for MDR and show lounge. Only 4 floors up for Casino. The only time we need an elevator is to go to Lido for lunch. We eat breakfast in the MDR. Oh, yes, we use the elevator to go to Serenity Deck if the ship has one. As Carnival offers upsells to already booked guests some categories may become available that show unavailable right now. I would also call your PVP to inquire. Not all open cabins show up online. A pack and go rate might also become available since sail date is getting close.

HawksFan74 Posted July 23, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 23, 2015 If you know for sure that you are going on this cruise, I would book the best available room now and keep checking. If something better comes along, you can always upgrade.

It doesn't really matter as long as we're on the ship when it sets sail. I am not as optimistic as some posts. There have been some significant advertised discounts for this cruise, which sold cabins. It's 3 weeks away, group bookings have been turned back in weeks ago by travel agents. At this point- your narrow range of selection for cabins I'll speculate aren't going to "open up". With late bookings- in my opinion, you have to be very flexible. IF you are fixed on this date and ship- then the longer you wait, the more accepting you are going to have to be to pay more or not going.
happywife0921 Posted July 23, 2015 #17 Share Posted July 23, 2015 I would definitely call a PVP, we booked last minute for another couple on our last cruise out of NOLA. They wanted a specific location that showed up as unavailable, but the PVP said there were still cabins to choose from so they lucked out.
TheShayQueen Posted July 23, 2015 #18 Share Posted July 23, 2015 I would book now but continuously look to see if anything above main opens up. And if it does, you can just upgrade. Less stress if you book now while you can.....at least you'll know that you WILL be cruising on that date.

We are booked on that cruise and were assigned our guarantee cabin yesterday so you are right about that. The price on this cruise has gone up a hundred dollars a person since we booked. Hope you don't miss your cruise. Edited July 23, 2015 by mzloolue
