Astro Flyer Posted July 26, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2015 The most recent wine listed that I've seen posted was by 'IECalCruiser' dated September 2014 which he had on the Crown in February & it appears to be the same wine list we had on the Regal in April. We just disembarked the Crown yesterday and there was a newer wine list dated September 2014. There were maybe 10% changes and a lot of $1 to $4 price increases. Astro Flyer Posted July 26, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) I really wish there were more Valpolicella's. This is only the dining room wine list and Vines & other venues such as Bellini's & Sabatini's on Royal-class ships have additional wine & champagne choices. Sabatini's on Royal & Regal have an extensive list of Super Tuscan wines available ranging from $28 to $240. Does anyone have any of these "drink menus"? I realize Vines might change from season to season, but assume Bellini's and Sabatini's would be fairly stable. It might just make the decision to buy, or not to buy, the AIBP a bit more informed. For example, using the spreadsheet helps and adding in the "food" from the Gelato shop makes a difference. Perhaps knowing a bit more of the wines offered outside the MDRs on the Regal/Royal would also be beneficial.

Astro Flyer Posted July 26, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) Can you get bottles of wine and wines by the glass in Vines with the AIBP? I've never used the AIBP but in the Princess website's description it states "This package is available for consumption at all bars, public areas and dining venues (not room service and excludes mini bar items)". http://www.princess.com/learn/cruise-gifts-celebrations/gifts-and-services/ Edited July 26, 2015 by Astro Flyer

Can I get the same, extended selection in the Crown Grill? I've never tried to do it but I'd ask at Vines or Sabatini's about that possibility. They're able to located leftover wine to be consumed in another dining venue so I'd think you would be able to get a bottle from another wine list at the CG. :) Sabatini's on the Royal & Regal had 25 types of Super Tuscan wines available. Steelers36 Posted July 27, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 27, 2015 The wine list near the top of this thread is quite depressing to a wine lover, let alone a connoisseur - HAH! I have brought my own on board several times, but I have ordered from the list in the past as well and I thought they had some more inspiring selections in the past. Now they seem to have stocked the list with plenty of plonk well under $10 retail, selling it at over $20 profit. There's not much imagination, nor anything much to get excited about on this list now. I wonder if there is another list (some mentioned additional Italian ST wines on Royal/Regal, but not looking to spend hundreds and much of the $28 stuff is grocery store specials). Maybe VINES has more, can't be sure without a list. I put that Sep, 2014, list into an Excel spreadsheet and split up the wine name from origin and price (Princess has a lot of mistakes in the list and I fixed a few, but discerning wine folks will notice more and I cannot be bothered fixing them all - and of course one of the biggest faux paux is to not list any vintage years). Okay, so before you think I'm a wine snob, I'm not - I do enjoy wine and happen to be a little educated about it and familiar with grapes, wine regions, etc. So, back to the spreadsheet. I have included a column with the Princess 15% tip added, so that's the total cost on account. I added a column to show current US retail pricing. Where possible, I used Total Wine's pricing at the Fort Lauderdale store. There were a lot they don't carry (not even good enough for them I suppose), so I used the popular retail price out there on the web. Then I presumed I was buying those wines myself and paying Princess $15 corkage fee on each one. Finally, I show the savings over buying the wine on Princess. (Before the posts start piling up, yes, I know we get one free bottle per person, but I was assuming all bottles end up being opened in the DR for comparison sakes, but cruisers can save the $15 on two free bottles per cabin for in-room consumption, or take a half-consumed bottle to the DR and your waiters aren't going to charge for that one). I did this much review and analysis because I'm not planning on having a car this November for our Regal cruise and was thinking not worth a taxi to and from Total Wine the evening prior. Now I am re-thinking that. Anyway, if you can get your own wine and are inclined to do so, you can get much better value for the same money you have to pay Princess off their list. It just helps if you can get to the store for very little cost. Notes for spreadsheet: 1. I could not find #28 - Chablis, Les Ecurles Seugbeyrue de Tanley 2. I did find #47 - Gevrey-Chambertin, Laboure-roi, but I found $50 price and then $10. Can't believe Santa Princess is selling a $50 wine for $49. 3. There is insufficient info for #64 - Don Maximiano to know which bottle Princess is offering. The regular cab is low $20's, but the Founders Reserve is in the mid $60's - hope it's that one for $99. Yikes. 4. IDK what #65 is. No such thing - it should probably be Errazuriz. 5. Depending on the vintage, the best value on the list just might be #70, Mondavi's Reserve Cabernet (assuming price is no object). It's a very low markup, but you won't see me drinking that one on board. 6. If buying off the list, maybe try #74 - Wente Southern Hills Cab. Another value tip is that I noticed that for the same price point, the US wines are generally marked up more than the foreign wines, so look outside USA for better value. 7. Another probable good value is #83 Katnook Estate Shiraz, but again IDK the vintage. 8. IDK which Shiraz is #84 - there are more than one by that producer. 9. #95 & #96 are difficult to peg since no vintage is supplied. Again, if price is no object, these selections may provide top value compared to market prices. IT's NOT PERFECT - I did the best I could on coming up with a retail price. At least it gives a decent guide to where the pricing is versus retail. Many, but not all of the wines are sold at Total Wine, but TW has so much more to choose from as well. Here's to the next sip!! Steelers36 Posted July 30, 2015 #16 Share Posted July 30, 2015 If anyone has a newer wine list from this summer or say by September cruises, I'd love to see a copy here. Especially for Royal/Regal. Or say a VINES listing. I will put anything new into my spreadsheet and update it with onboard versus on shore pricing (basing it on south Florida as much as possible - sorry, folks, no time to cover all of Princess' departure ports). Thanks!

I am not going to remove the unavailables at this time as I have read a couple of ships were running out of wine for some reason.
Ron the Rev Posted October 20, 2015 #21 Share Posted October 20, 2015 Camus no longer on the wine list (RIP). We now drink Robert Mondavi Reserve (Napa Valley, CA) $135 as a next best to our taste buds. Retail best price about $100 for a 2006 so there's not too much of a mark up on high end wines it seems. Rare luvseaside Posted October 20, 2015 #23 Share Posted October 20, 2015 Can you get bottles of wine and wines by the glass in Vines with the AIBP? Not sure it this was answered for you, but in regard to AIBP, you can get any glass of wine $10 and under; bottles under $100 are 40% off the listed price at any venue, not just MDR. We found it worthwhile for us. I've found the wine lists don't vary too often unless they run out of something. I drank more than my fair share of that Chablis in Vines last year on my cruise! :D
Mary Ann 2 Posted October 20, 2015 #24 Share Posted October 20, 2015 steelers36, Thanks for that spreadsheet analysis! We had just been debating how much you could save if you brought your own if you had to pay $15 on top of wine price vs. buying at Princess price. Helped us decide our course of action. Thanks! skf, Thanks for the update!
