duct tape Posted August 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2015 Don't roll your eyes and sigh. This is not for discussion. Just received our box for next trip. Just to put the issue to rest (OK, I highly doubt it): "On 7 day sailings in the Baltic, Mediterranean and Alaska, formal night is OPTIONAL; guests may dress informal (sic), jacket is required for men." Hope this helps.
Otis Posted August 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2015 And to add to this, on our recent 7 night Norway cruise, the documents said one formal night, so we came prepared. However, that was not the case, as it turned out to be formal optional.
wripro Posted August 13, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2015 Formal optional seems to be the new direction on all luxury lines.
Randyk47 Posted August 13, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2015 There were just two formal optional nights on our last cruise. Granted our cruise was actually a 9-day and 7-day taken back to back but I was pleasantly surprised that most people dressed actually in at least semi-formal attire with still many tuxes or dark suits for the men and appropriate dress for the women. We ate in The Restuarant both formal optional nights so I can't speak to the other venues.
Rare Silver Spectre Posted August 13, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2015 For our 17 day crossing on the Whisper the book is showing 3 formal nights (none of which are optional)

Rare Gourmet Gal Posted August 13, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2015 Where in the documents is there an indication regarding formal nights?
Emtbsam Posted August 13, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2015 As long as he fits in his tux and I fit in my gowns, we will observe formal nights optional or not! We enjoy it, don't mind the extra luggage, but we also understand that luggage can be an issue for others especially on short cruises.

duct tape Posted August 13, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted August 13, 2015 Dusababy, what is the difference between an optimist and a pessimist? The pessimist has better information! Kathryn Graham, Washington Post
