Worth shopping for jewelry in Cozumel?

Not a big jewelry shopper at all but thinking of a nice pair of stud earrings (diamond or aquamarine). Is it worth shopping for that in Cozumel? It's our only port stop on a 4 day cruise. If so, can anyone recommend a good jeweler in Cozumel besides the ship sponsored stores like Diamond Int'l? If not, no biggie.....

Silver jewelry is the thing to get in Cozumel. There is an excellent shop we've used several times right before you exit the shop building near the taxi line.

If you see a "bauble" you like, go for it. Save the expensive stuff for purchase at home, where you get a warranty and guarantee.

I agree with Bob, silver is the best buy in Cozumel. I've purchased several items but can't recall the name of the store.

Not a great port for fine jewelry! I was looking for an insurance replacement for a lost engagement ring - had already done my homework - tried hard but couldn't come near mainland US prices!

I have personally had nothing but bad experiences with the vendors in the port area. They will outright lie about what a certain stone is/is not. Have also had them try to tell me that some of the "finer" pieces are 14kt white gold when I can see the 925 hallmark (meaning Sterling Silver) right on the piece! The cruise lines should really be outraged at some of these practices.

 

There are, however, some much nicer and hopefully, more honest, jewelry stores downtown, which is a 5 minute cab ride away. Happy shopping!:)

Be very careful when it comes to Silver at Cozumel.

 

Prices will be great but there is a saying that you get what you pay for.

Yes after an excursion we went to a store FREE TEQUILA

Right at the jewelry counter....

We were behaved...........did not drink, did not buy.
