volfan22701 Posted September 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2015 At the dockyard are there things to do late into the evening and how late. Also if we are in Hamilton during the evening what is the latest we can get a bus or ferry back. Or how much would a cab for 4 be. We will be there late october. Also is the water temp good for swimming then?
flowers44 Posted September 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2015 There is not much to do at night time in Bermuda since all of the shopping closes at either 5 or 6 PM. The Frog and Onion at the Dockyard stays open at night as does Captain Jack's, both are bars and the Frog and Onion serves food. Snorkel Beach has night time activities as well at the Dockyard. The bus are ferry service ends quite early from the rest of the island back to the Dockyard. There are activities onboard the ship and the Casino is open between 9 PM and early morning. Bermuda is pretty quiet after dark. Not sure what cab fare is back from Hamilton. As far as the ocean for swimming, it is wonderful. The water is still warm and, during the day, the humidity is much lower during October.

We love Bermuda in October...and will be there in early October this year. Air and water temperatures are still warm enough for swimming.
volfan22701 Posted September 5, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Thanks all. One more. How early can you get to a nearby beach in the morning and which one would you pick having to be back to ship to leave at 1:30?
volfan22701 Posted September 5, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Also, the bars mentioned above. How late will they be open?
calmpets Posted September 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 5, 2015 (edited) The Frog and Onion at the Dockyard stays open at night as does Captain Jack's, both are bars and the Frog and Onion serves food. I don't know about the Frog and Onion, but Captain Jack's is only open Thursdays through Sundays till 8pm in October. I checked myself because I'll be sailing then. flowers44 Posted September 6, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Thanks all. One more. How early can you get to a nearby beach in the morning and which one would you pick having to be back to ship to leave at 1:30? That is an early leaving time, 1:30 PM, to go to far away from the Dockyard. Looking at the bus schedule, the regular bus leaves Monday - Friday at 8:50 AM. That would be #7 for the South Shore Road. Saturday is at 8:20 AM and Sunday is at 10:50 AM. The buses run every 30 minutes after about 10:30 AM to get you back to the Dockyard. One word of advise is not to wait until the last bus because it may be full and you will not be able to get on. There is also a shuttle bus for $16 a person that takes you to Horseshoe and picks you up. Black Bay Beach is about a one mile walk from the Dockyard. You could control your going and return by not depending on a bus. With your early sailing time, it is a bit risky to go too far away from the Dockyard. I would plan my Beach day for one of the other days you are in Bermuda.

How early can you get to a nearby beach in the morning and which one would you pick having to be back to ship to leave at 1:30? You can go to Horseshoe Bay. Take the Round Trip Horseshoe Bay Shuttle which is $16 per person round trip or take a taxi. The shuttle service begins at 8:00 am.
Grampyshottub Posted September 8, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Just an FYI about a taxi from Hamilton to the Dockyard. One thing to remember is that either after 11:00PM or 12:00AM there is a surcharge that goes until 5:30am or so. That $50.00 + tip taxi can cost as much as $65.00 + tip. Like a good friend of mine who lives on the island told me years ago, "Back in the 16 & 1700's there were many families here who were pirates, then we discovered tourism". I've seen many people over the years drink their ride.

volfan22701 Posted September 8, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted September 8, 2015 How long does it take the shuttle to get back from horseshoe bay? If we went over at 8:00 would there be one to have us back before 1:00. Probably would only want about 3 hours of beach time.
