Rare Alphen Posted September 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Since there are two ports in Reykjavik, the bigger industrial port and the smaller in downtown Reykjavik, I would like to know where the Prinsendam was docked during here visit a couple of weeks ago. jtl513 Posted September 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2015 (edited) I don't know about recently, but since no one else is answering yet I'll tell you that 4 years ago she docked at Skarfabakki 2 miles from downtown. . Storylady Posted September 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Don't know the name of the Cruise Port. It is the area where all the cruise ships dock. I believe the downtown area isn't big enough for the Prinsendam. We have been to Reykavik twice and I don't remember seeing a ship in the downtown area. Even though it is a 20 minute walk to downtown, it is really great walk in nice weather. There is a real nice path that winds along the waterfront. You pass the Viking Ship sculpture and the house where Reagan and Gorbachev met. But when we were there this August, it was pouring rain and 37 knot winds which went over 50 knots the afternoon we were to leave. There is a shuttle that takes you to the Harper in the downtown area. The cost of the shuttle was $8 round trip. The Rotterdam was also in port with us. Huge storm on the Norwegian Sea. Rotterdam missed its port call in the Faroe Islands due to the storm that was coming. They hurried to Reykavik so they would be docked when the worst of the storm arrived. LindaM Posted September 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Last summer we docked far from downtown. But, there was a bus that shuttled us to the art/music center which was walkable to the downtown area. I think it was free, but it may have been a few dollars...not much. Jade13 Posted September 6, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2015 (edited) We have never been on Prinsendam but have seen her a couple of times. One time was while we were on VOV on Maasdam and docked next to her in Reykjavik. Edited September 6, 2015 by Jade13
Rare Essiesmom Posted September 7, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Swan Hellenic Minerva was docked in town when we were there in 2008 on QE2, obviously not docked with her. She is 12,000 tons. EM
DeepWaterMariner Posted September 7, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Almost certainly the commercial port. We docked there on the Veendam in August. There was a cheap shuttle to downtown, worth the price to save my kegs for the uphill walk to the beautiful church that dominates the skyline. Rare Alphen Posted September 7, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Thank you for all the replies, I was assuming, the old town port was for smaller cruise ships. Evidently, the elegant explorer is small, but not that small. :)

Evidently, the elegant explorer is small, but not that small. :)At 205m the P'dam is too long for the city center pier and would just fit in length and draft at Sundabakki, wherever that is! :) The facilities are much better at Skarfabakki, however. The city center pier does not have a terminal building. See http://cruiseiceland.com/cruise-ports/port-of-reykjavik/reykjavik-port-facilities/ edit: Sundabakki is near Skarfabakki, 2 miles from downtown .
