I remember reading something that they were going to change ID requirements to fly and an Illinois Drivers license would not be an adequate ID. Does anyone know if this is still going to happen ? We do not have passports and I wasnt planning on getting them but if this happens we will have to. I tried searching it online but cant find anything current about it

Check out this web page

The RealID requirement for boarding planes will not begin before 2016, but it doesn't say when it will begin. Illinois is listed as having an extension.

Uh oh. I'm from NH. Looks like we have been naughty, letting our extension expire and all. [emoji6]

Oh well. I have a passport. And a passport card, which I can easily use to board planes.

I lived in IL, moved to WI recently, but hadn't chagned my ID until recnetly when I Heard about this. Aparently, there's and IL law that conflicts with the new ID requirements, IL has to change the laws before they can change the ID's to be compliant

There was just a news story here recently about how NY has been requesting information from HLS to clarify what they need to do to be in compliance, but that HLS is not responding to their requests.

Nice...... doesn't surprise me. :)

For domestic flights in the US, yes. For almost any international flight from the US (including Canada and Mexico) a PP card will get you through TSA. But the airline will deny you boarding at check-in without a full PP, since a PP card is insufficient to re-enter the US by air.

It doesn't matter if you're flying to Canada (for example) and returning via cruise ship. The airline has no knowledge or assurance, and has to assume you will fly back.

I just saw today where the date has been extended to 2020.

The 2020 date appears to apply only to compliant states. If you have an old DL from a compliant state you will not have to renew it early to get the ReamID form. If your state is non-compliant, no change - use a passport.

The dates have not been announced, but will not be any sooner than next year.

Logic says that they are not going to implement it until all the states are compliant because they are not going to impact that many citizens.
