spcl4cs_gal Posted September 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2015 Sailing on a B2B in October on the Emerald out of FLL. What is the "middle day" like for people who want to get off the ship for some time in FLL? Is the All Aboard time the same as it would be for passengers getting on the ship for the second half of the sailing? Was thinking of hiking it out to Sawgrass to do some serious shopping before sailing again. Thanks. :)
Shogun Posted September 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2015 Hi There Getting off no problem, getting on can some times be an issue if you want to reboard when thousands checking in, try and pick a quite time, apart from that you can be the last person to board the ship, crew will advise what your all aboard time will be. yours Shogun
CruiserBruce Posted September 15, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2015 No customs. But you will have to complete an Immigration process. Very commonly discussed here, and on the Florida Departures board.

Rare geoherb Posted September 15, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2015 We've done it twice. Both times, however, we chose to wait with the group of people who did not want to get off the ship in the morning. We were assigned a time and place to meet and escorted as a group to show our passports before getting back on the ship. There were instructions on what to do if you wanted to get off the ship earlier. I waited until after lunch to walk to Total Wine to get a couple of more bottles for the next leg. I did not have any problems with crowds getting back on the ship since it was after 2 by then.
Steelers36 Posted September 15, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2015 Yeahbut... with your new cruise card, you could "sail" past the crowds anyway and just board. Right?
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted September 15, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2015 I'd b e making the best of turnaround day and head for the shops or an attraction in port. Come back after the boarding rush around 2-3 pm. Our last B2B cruise card covered both legs of the cruise.

Not quite right...it isn't your cruise card that does the magic, it is your "IN TRANSIT" card. Just show it and you get waved on past everyone else, whenever you are ready to reboard. Also wondering if there are shuttles going nearby to stores or if it is best to get a cab? Thanks!

You can walk it from Pier 2 (Princess's primary building), but no guarantee you get that one if multiple ships turning around same day. I would consider weather and heat as you could get quite warm making the trek. Personal choice. Make sure you carry some photo id, as well as the cruise card. Of course, you can always walk one way and taxi back. Grocery store right beside Total Wine. Not sure if taxis hang out there, or need to call one. It's a large shopping center, so taxis should be nearby. Edited September 15, 2015 by steelers36

Was thinking of hiking it out to Sawgrass to do some serious shopping before sailing again. Thanks. :) By "hiking it out to Sawgrass" I hope you know that it is a 30 min taxi ride. There might be a Princess disembark tour that will take passengers to Sawgrass Mills Mall and then deliver them to the airport. Check with the tour desk once on board. You may or may not be able to use this tour. You will receive detailed instructions in your cabin regarding turn around day. Just follow them it is easy. If you want to go and do some shopping basically, you can disembark any time after the ship is allowed to disembark passengers. You can re-board anytime after general boarding has started up until the last boarding time, probably around 3:30pm. Take your passport, intransit card, and cruise card(s) with you. You may also be required to complete a US Customs declaration, we were required to do this in S.F. when we left the ship, and we had to turn it in when leaving the terminal. The $ value of goods will be zero. I don't know if this was S.F. specific or something new. When you disembark on your own you will have to pass through immigration and probably wait in the line. If you are docked at pier 2 it is easy to walk off and onto S.E. 17th street where there are stores as well as transportation to the ocean area. If you are docked mid port, you can not walk off the pier. You will have to take a taxi, or there is a possibility that you can take the parking deck shuttle from the mid-port garage to the north-port garage (pier 2) and then walk off the pier. spcl4cs_gal Posted September 15, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted September 15, 2015 By "hiking it out to Sawgrass" I hope you know that it is a 30 min taxi ride. Yes I am totally aware of where Sawgrass is and how long it would take to get there. I may be renting a car in FLL for the day so that would take care of getting to the mall and back. And to pablo222, it just so happens that I may be heading to the mall with a crew member so I wonder if this would make the cowbus a better option? You will likely not be allowed back onto the ship until around noon when regular embarkation is allowed. You will need to show you passport to immigration. There should not be a customs form required since you are not ending your cruise, but sometimes customs demands one anyway. You will have an in-transit pass to show you are not leaving the ship for good. When you return, you have to go through security, but do not have to check in again. And yes, you must be on-board by the time new passengers must be on board.

Very commonly discussed here, and on the Florida Departures board. There are always Customs, and if you are a transit passenger not handing in a declaration form you are not meant to take any box bag or package ashore - however people do take shopping bags etc of course and I have not seen anyone questioned by Customs officers in Fl, but they are more on the job in San Pedro and I have been taken to task over that there. I disagree. Have done several B2Bs out of FLL. Have never been given a declaration (I94?). Yes, have had passport inspected. Have done both- just got back on, and gone off shopping. But, we have never taken anything ashore. Only brought stuff back on board. Edited September 16, 2015 by CruiserBruce
Grego Posted September 16, 2015 #20 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I often wondered but never asked the question as to if you had purchased duty free alcohol during the voyage, do they deliver it after the first leg or do they know you have BTB and wait until the second leg is done? My guess is the latter because it does make sense, but wouldn't it be great if they delivered the bottles of hootch for you to enjoy during the next voyage? Depends on the ship....it has happened both ways, but now that they are selling more and more B2Bs, I think that they are delivering them to you on the last day of the final leg. The $1 beach trolley runs at irregular intervals along 17th and the end of the line is at the Publix next to Total Wine. Pickup and drop off are just north of the port entrance. Catch is if you are between times it can be a long wait. http://www.suntrolley.com/
