Rare crewsweeper Posted September 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Is this an offering for an excursion? Ship Excursion, or just that you want to do a free beach excursion? If something you read about at the port, there is a small "beach" there that costs nothing, but if you want any food or drink, the prices are a tad steep. If you just want to go to a beach and not pay any "entrance fee" then take the bus or a taxi to Mahahual's malecon, $3 pp down, $2 pp back. It's all one single, un broken beach, dotted with "clubs". With only a few exceptions where you can pre purchase an All Inclusive package, or need reservations for an All Inclusive club, all these beaches are "free", they have "free loungers" (and plenty of guys trying to get you to their club), but most request that you purchase something to drink or eat while there. Prices are generally lower than at the cruise port. Best thing to do is to walk the length of the malecon and spot a place along the beach that looks good to you and then pick a club around there. Better, less crowded spots are along the middle and southern ends of the malecon. Lots of reviews of places on this board.

Rare crewsweeper Posted September 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 21, 2015 There are several of the "beach clubs" described above that cater to these types of excursions. Hard to say which one as pictures are not always for the place they take you and cruise lines and vendors are reluctant to reveal names since you can often reach out and "book" on your own, or in the case of Costa Maya, just show up. But google Ya-Ya Beach, it seems to be the choice of some beach excursions. History of good service. Decent food too. But since you're not "locked in" inside a gate or fence, walk south a couple of blocks to 100% Agave, next to a small grocery/convenience store, and let Don Fernando treat you to some excellent seafood and lechon.
