vacation cruiser Posted October 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2015 Is there lobster on a 5 day cruise on formal night and is it in the dining room only or available in the buffet?
JF - retired RRT Posted October 11, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) I've never seen lobster in the buffet.:( Lobster in the MDR...maybe. If you want to guarantee lobster, go to the Crown Grill. You can have as many as you want! :D Edited October 11, 2015 by JF - retired RRT
Mommypig Posted October 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2015 Yes, but it is frozen lobster tails. Not really worth the hype. They do taste good, but is really not anything to cruise for. Also the stuff they use for drawn butter is simply gross. Lobster claws are very lovely and you won't see them on a Princess cruise. Also, lobster is a meal to get down and dirty as you wield your nutcrackers to get every bit of meat. If you want lobster, go somewhere where you can pick the live lobster out of the aquarium and cook it yourself, or better yet, take a cruise out of NYC or Bayonne, NJ and go to Maine and Canada.

True, nothing better than tackling a whole lobster at lunch while in Bar Harbor unless it's the night where they serve lobster tails in the MDR. Then you can order lobster for your appetizer selection, lobster for your soup, same for salad, also for main dish and, if you have room, lobster for dessert. You might think this is extreme, but I did witness this exact same thing and no, it wasn't me.
CRUISEWITHH Posted October 12, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 12, 2015 Is there lobster on a 5 day cruise on formal night and is it in the dining room only or available in the buffet? We did not get lobster on our 5 day California coastal. Very disappointed. Helen

jimmy_durbin Posted January 14, 2022 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2022 This info would all be old now... Anyone have current info on when you get lobbers and when not... I know you get it on 7 days i know you do NOT get it on 4 days. The question is 5 & 6 days. I would guess No on 5 and yes on 6... that is what Carnival is doing. "lobster is no longer served for free on cruise 5 days or less. Cruise 6 days or longer include lobster on elegant night for no up-charge." I remember when Carnival had lobster on every sailing... that is the main reason I stayed with them over Royal when I started causing in 1999/2000

I was on a Disney cruise once, before dry dock, they had a lobster feast on deck the last day, 100s of lobsters for the taking... buffet style, but served by crew. It was amazing! coopco Posted January 15, 2022 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2022 I can't remember the last time I was able to order lobster (for an entree) on a 5 day cruise without paying extra. It was the norm when we first started cruising but I've not experienced it in the MDR without a charge in years.

I'm just interpreting the "Dinner includes one main course. Please enjoy any additional mains for $10 each." to mean for each lobster tail, you pay $10. Has anyone ordered more than one since they started the $10 per main course charge? I know they used to let you order more than one.
Rare hllwdcruiser Posted January 15, 2022 #11 Share Posted January 15, 2022 I remember when they served unlimited lobster claws during sailaway in the Buffet. That lasted for a few years and then like so many other things, disappeared forever.
Pootimer Posted January 15, 2022 #12 Share Posted January 15, 2022 I was on a 5-day out of Port Everglades last month on Regal Princess - there was no lobster served at all. Really missed it........

Now your lucky to see lobster once in the DR although I remember 2 1/2 years ago on the Regal they served cold left over lobster tails at the buffet the day after. People were going crazy loading up their plates until they tasted them & most were immediately dumped in the garbage. For some reason they didn't store well at all.
donaldsc Posted January 15, 2022 #15 Share Posted January 15, 2022 Any resemblance between what they claim is lobster on cruise ships and the lobster you get in a lobster pound in Maine is minimal. Cruise ship lobster is hardly worth the effort of eating it. I suspect that the lobster you get in a Red Lobster restaurant will even beat cruise ship lobster. stoneharborlady Posted January 15, 2022 #16 Share Posted January 15, 2022 I believe the lobster served in the dining room is warm water lobster, not cold water lobster from Maine. A bit on the mushy side. No idea about the lobster served in the Crown Grill.
Rick&Jenny Posted January 16, 2022 #17 Share Posted January 16, 2022 Just came off the Majestic Princess last week end. The lobster tails were horrible. Put your index and middle fingers together. That’s about the size of them. They were salty, stringy, tough to chew through, and had a funny flavor. The quality of Princess’ foods has nose dived recently. Both the buffet & MDR.
Steelers36 Posted January 16, 2022 #18 Share Posted January 16, 2022 The old thread isn't very relevant today. I'd hardly make a choice of cruise voyage based on whether we get lobster in the DR one evening or not. I don't even choose it when they do have it nowadays.

I'm sure the cooks are trying to do their best with what's provided but sooner or later they'll have to increase the base price of the cruise to keep up with their food costs. Pam in CA Posted January 16, 2022 #20 Share Posted January 16, 2022 What hasn’t changed is that it’s still frozen lobster tails. Nothing like fresh cold water lobster. Maybe I’m a lobster snob but I never order lobster on a ship.
Rare startedwithamouse Posted January 16, 2022 #21 Share Posted January 16, 2022 Imo lobster or steak in an MDR has always been inedible. Nothing like you would have in a nice restaurant on land.
