spazzyjanet Posted October 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2015 So, I'm looking at old Compasses and it looks like they hold Poker tournaments on sea days at 3pm? In your experience, how long do these tournaments usually last? I'm asking, because assuming you don't get knocked out in an hour, I can see how this could interfere with early seating dining? Smiley4 Posted October 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2015 The tournaments go very quickly. I'd say an hour to an hour and a half maximum. The blinds go up every 10 minutes. They won't interfere with early dinner. Good luck
caseymorgan Posted October 13, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2015 I've never played poker at sea. What is the original buy in? How many people usually play? I might want to try it in January on Oasis.
Smiley4 Posted October 13, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 13, 2015 It was 20 dollars to buy in. It was a tournament. If enough people entered, the winner won a 7 night cruise for 2 on the Oasis in a balcony cabin. I think 20 needed to enter to give away the cruise. The preliminary rounds were played on the first 2 sea days then the finals were played on the final sea day. The winners from every 5 night or longer cruise throughout the year won a free cruise on the oasis of the seas this Dec 5th or 12th and an entry into the main event tournament. Win that tournament and first prize is 50k I believe. They do this promotion every year. They also have cash games throughout the week on several rccl cruise ships via an electronic poker table. spazzyjanet Posted October 13, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted October 13, 2015 Okay thank you. Your response seals it. I think that I am going to try to switch to early seating if they are over that quickly.
spazzyjanet Posted November 21, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Reviving an old thread, but can someone confirm that daily entry into the tournament is only $20? And that the tournament lasts only an hour or two at most? Also, I noticed that there are sit and go tournaments each evening at 10:30. I assume that those are cash payouts at the end of the tournament? How long do those last? Thanks!
Submariner Posted November 21, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Just be prepared to pay a ton on rake... 10% up to $15 in cash games. Highest anywhere! Something about being a 'captive audience' without any way to play elsewhere. Also, tournaments have rebuys with the extra money NOT going towards winnings but the casino's pockets. spazzyjanet Posted November 21, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Yeah, crappy structure, crappy rake. But, I only make it to a casino like twice a year and enjoy playing against someone other than a computer opponent or friends at $5 poker night, so I will be playing.
