excitedofharpenden Posted October 22, 2015 #51 Share Posted October 22, 2015 Celebrity's "big screen" will be located in an obscure area of the ship where no one currently ever goes. I doubt it will be blaring all day and it actually looks quite nice: I agree. It looks a nice venue. Phil
Muushka Posted October 22, 2015 #52 Share Posted October 22, 2015 Some people are so passive that they can accept anything. Some of us are more discerning with our time and money and care about our surroundings. I much prefer to go through life being aware of what is around me, not oblivious to it. That is why I tend to gravitate away from unpleasant places and locations, and towards places and locations that are interesting and enjoyable. I would never waste my time going somewhere and not notice being there. Sadly, I am very much like you. However, my husband is not like you and I. Given the choice, I would give anything to be more like my husband. He is a happy guy. That's not saying if he walked into a beautiful area that had 25 screaming children he would be happy. No, he would not be happy. But he and I can enter an area where he is comfortable, but usually I will find something that annoys me. Ah, to not be so discerning, life would be so much easier. And happier.
dogsambam Posted October 22, 2015 #53 Share Posted October 22, 2015 I remember the first time on the first ship with MUTS on Princess. if I recall it was Caribbean Princess. It was so cool going up there at night on the lounge chairs with popcorn and candy. it has dramatically changed over the years as it has become such a popular feature. If they just kept it at night for a "drive in" experience, it would be fantastic on any ship. It seems an annoyance when it is blaring during the day and you can't hear yourself think at the pool. The worse I have seen it was on the Disney Fantasy. It was so loud and playing the same thing over and over, I wanted to leave the pool. If Celebrity is installing, hopefully it will only play at night.

I'm sure that Disney passengers love it blaring like that in order to keep the kid's attention. That would probably not be the case on Celebrity. We enjoyed it immensely on the Regal Princess last year and did not find it overbearing at all. We saw some great movies and concerts during both the day and night. It was lovely in the evening as it was November and a little cooler. We utilized the blankets and shared a bottle of champagne. It was much quieter out there than inside the ship with the loud casino, disco, etc.
Rare Hlitner Posted October 22, 2015 #55 Share Posted October 22, 2015 We cruise many different lines and have spent significant time on Grand Class Princess ships which is MUTS (Movies Under the Stars) was originally developed (and is now standard on all the ships in that class). When it started it was truly Movies Under the Stars where they showed outdoor movies only at night. Deck loungers are rearranged to enhance viewing, special covers/cushions are added to the loungers, and free fresh popped popcorn is available. This is a nice option. But then Princess started blasting out various on screen entertainment all day long. These days it is no longer possible to get a quiet lounger around the pool (where they have Muts) since they might have cartoons, movies, kids movies, sports, etc. on screen all day with the sound blasting out of the massive speakers. They have now added large screens to the ships of many lines (such as Disney, Carnival, RCI, etc) and it can be darn annoying when they use it all day long. SFO-F/A Posted October 22, 2015 #57 Share Posted October 22, 2015 Acceptance is not about being passive. It's about having enough inner peace to not be bothered by so many things. It's about noticing what you like and tuning out what you don't. Peaceful people can be fully present and mindful without being bothered by things they don't care for. Enjoy the moment and peace out. :) I couldn't agree with you more!

I am lucky to have most of my bucket list items checked off. I am the type who 'stops and smells the roses', and not the type who zooms by on a dirt bike and never notices them. A lot can be said about savoring the finer things in life. But to me, not much can be said for not caring one way or the other about them. This is one reason why up until now I have favored Celebrity over other lines I consider less appealing. With Celebrity slowly devolving towards the commonality of the other lines, I may have to start looking elsewhere for my satisfaction if they evolve too low. Allhans Ondeck Posted October 22, 2015 #59 Share Posted October 22, 2015 To me it looks as though it will be an intimate setting. The seating tends to be more of a social area where people would snack and drink while a movie is playing. I feel as though they took a wasted out of the way space and made another venue (and revenue maker). I would believe that the volume will be as to not even know its up there. That being said I'm sure it will be closed down before late hours of the night and most times see little use. Between the dinners, shows, parties, bars, casino and everything else I find it hard to fit it all in, and I'm sure most feel the same.
Queen of Oakville Posted October 22, 2015 #60 Share Posted October 22, 2015 (edited) Guess what, by the time the younger generation has the time and money to cruise frequently, they'll be the older generation. Not true at all. I'm 46, and i will put myself in the "younger generation category". We cruise 1 or 2 times a year; would do it more often if work didn't get in the way. Have the money to cruise, just not the vacation time :D I think most people my age or younger don't cruise because they can't imagine being locked on a ship with nothing to do. The more activities there are; the more likely they are to take up cruising. Lots of couples take cruises for their honeymoon; but not all of them fall in love with it and keep cruising. I think it has less to do with money and more to do with wanting variety in their holidays. At least in Canada, I can tell you that most people I know 50 and under take one to two all-inclusive holidays each year; spending as much $2000 or more per person on the holiday. So; they have the money (IMHO cruising is cheaper!); just not the inclination to spend it on a cruise holiday. this is the market that the cruise lines should be going after. I doubt it will be blaring all day and it actually looks quite nice: I agree also. I am really looking forward to this. It will be nice to sit out under the stars and watch a movie. The screen in the picture is not very big, so it won't be anything like the MUTS screens on Princess or RCCL. I have a deck 11 Aqua cabin booked on the Summit next year. I'm less worried about sound from whatever they run on the movie screen than I am the clod hoppers who will be clunking around that back space on top of my cabin. vplsh Posted October 22, 2015 #62 Share Posted October 22, 2015 Hopefully it will be done correctly, not just added as it was to several RCI ships. We were on Vision of the Seas this summer and they stuck the screen up on the walkway, taking away the jogging track and the area where bands played. Made it difficult to get to the pool deck from above as well, as one set of stairs was blocked. My concern is that the deck 11 Aqua cabins on Summit are directly below this area and that there will be noise that wasn't there before. Guess we'll find out- we are on the second cruise on Summit after the dry dock!
Baatman Posted October 22, 2015 #63 Share Posted October 22, 2015 I started cruising with them because they had no MUTS. I just found out were the first sailing out of dry dock and there will be MUTS on the deck. I'm new here maybe other Celebrity ship have them, anyone as heartbroken as me to probably see them go fleet wide? I don't mind the movies at night, but when they blast videos during the day I try to find another spot.

obnurse Posted October 23, 2015 #65 Share Posted October 23, 2015 Very excited for MUTS! Can't wait! Although I don't like MUTS during the day, I love it at night. It's a great experience to watch a movie snuggled up in a blanket next to my dh while sailing on the ocean. Having said that, I don't like when the volume of MUTS during the day competes with whatever music or activities are happening at the pool during the day. At that time I hear nothing but noise. Junebug1 Posted October 23, 2015 #68 Share Posted October 23, 2015 Celebrity's "big screen" will be located in an obscure area of the ship where no one currently ever goes. I doubt it will be blaring all day and it actually looks quite nice: We frequent this obscure area almost daily on our cruise. As do others, b/c sometimes we can't find lounge chairs. We like a quiet area away from the pool. We have been on several cruises with MUTS and they are LOUD so those watching can hear what's going on. Last October we did a panama canal partial transit on the Coral Princess & thought "let's give the night time movie a chance". Do you believe that in 11 nights they didn't show any movies!?! All sporting events & concerts. We'll be on the Summit in 1 week & I will be scouting for other quiet areas. If there aren't any, no more Summit after the addition of MUTS. AS long as they don't add them to the S-class we'll be fine. Love our Celebrity cruises!!!
happy cruzer Posted October 23, 2015 #69 Share Posted October 23, 2015 I hope Celebrity does incorporate the screens well. On Princess ships, MUTS did not bother us. There are four pools and the volume is loud at the one family pool. You can hear it at one other but not see it and it's more in the background. Usually in a one week cruise there will be one night we enjoy the movie. So to me it works well for multi generational cruising.
