iuki Posted October 25, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2015 So many people here on CC have stated how the Radiance Class ships are their favorite. I am curious as to why. Thanks for sharing. :)
sjb317 Posted October 25, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2015 The Radiance class ships give me that "close to the ocean" feeling which is what I enjoy the most. The larger ships feel more like a shopping mall. I like the outside seating behind WJ and love to have breakfast there. I also like the Schooner Bar/ Colony Club area, it's a great place to relax & people watch. The lounge is a good place to dance. Radiance is definitely our favorite class! AussieVisi2r Posted October 25, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2015 For me it's the size and the glass. I don't like the big ships as you cannot sea the ocean at all times. You loose the feeling of being on a ship! Raina
impatientlywaiting Posted October 25, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2015 We love the "smaller" ships for the same reason as the above posts - all the glass so you can see the ocean where ever you are on the ship. Having the Windjammer in the back of the ship - the outside eating area behind it is great for breakfast and lunch and sometimes sailaway. I've never been on the bigger ships and have no desire to cruise on a ship so big it feels like a shopping mall turned on its side. JMHO! :D
Rare L454S Posted October 25, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Still our favorite ships after trying the Navigator and Allure. Nothing wrong with either of them, but the Radiance class is the right size, decor, dining, etc....they just fit what we want from a cruise. Clarea Posted October 25, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Fewer passengers, glass all over, elegant decor. Just wish they had some side facing JS staterooms on deck 9.
derbygirl520 Posted October 25, 2015 #7 Share Posted October 25, 2015 I've been on several RCI ships, varying in size. My husband and I LOVED Brilliance. As my husband puts it: "I really liked the architectural details." The elevators face out towards the ocean, which is really nice. Since it isn't a tiny ship, you do get some of the larger ship activities (like a sports court, Persian Garden) without sacrificing a more intimate feel. Great ships! Arizona Cruz Chic Posted October 25, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Love the open feeling with all the glass. Easy layout and not overly crowded. I agree with Bob, wish they had side facing JS on deck 9. ***
MCC retired Posted October 25, 2015 #9 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Closer to what a cruise ship use to be . Still feel like your aboard a ship on the ocean vs a floating resort mega ship.
Murphy Posted October 25, 2015 #10 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Small enough to feel intimate, large enough to have some of the bells and whistles without becoming a kids playground. But mostly because the sea seems to be the focus with all the glass. Also has always had the most friendly crew when we have been on board. cb at sea Posted October 25, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 25, 2015 The outdoor eating space is VERY nice...wish more ships had that! However, that bonus is offset by the indoor adult Solarium...I absolutely HATE that...and wouldn't sail a warm weather cruise on this class ship again. finz2u Posted October 25, 2015 #12 Share Posted October 25, 2015 The ships are beautiful with all the glass. The centrum area also seems to me more lively than the promenades on the larger ships. But any ship and any cruise is OK by me.
iuki Posted October 25, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Thanks everyone. Now it makes sense. I never really understood the differences between the classes of ships. Good to know.

ccletzgo Posted October 25, 2015 #15 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Like the Vision Class on Steroids. LOVE! The best aft Verandahs. NO obstruction. The glass, you can see the ocean from everywhere... Out side eating for the windjammer . I could go on and on... ;)

Trainman-2 Posted October 25, 2015 #21 Share Posted October 25, 2015 We are both genuine old fogies in our 70's! We don't need to be entertained all day and all night by the cruise director with lots of activities. We are both handicapped and have a limited ability to walk long distances. We use rollators (walkers with 4 wheels and a seat for resting) when we leave the ship. When we go ashore is is normally to wander around a bit and check out the shopping but we don't need to buy anything. We already have refrigerator magnets from all of the ports! We are happy reading and talking with new people we meet. We really enjoy the open air dining room at the rear of the Windjammer. We also enjoy the Centrum and the shows there at night. We pretty much agree with what has been posted above. The radiance class ships are smaller, more relaxing, and more intimate.
MysticRhythmCruiser Posted October 25, 2015 #22 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Having done every class other than Vision and Quantum I have to say that the Radiance class is my hands-down favorite for all of the reasons stated above: - Elegance in decor and layout - Open, airy Centrum with fabulous sky and sea views - Smaller ship and more intimate socializing with other passengers, less "cattle call" feel when embarking/disembarking and on port days - Personally love the adults-only Solarium, it's warm but given that I usually come down from dry and cold regions I can't get enough of it - Lovely staff (they're great on all ships but my experience on Jewel and Brilliance has always been a notch above). - Interesting itineraries, being a somewhat smaller ship that can visit smaller islands without overwhelming it Looking forward to Jewel next month and next year for all of these reasons. Cabansail Posted October 25, 2015 #23 Share Posted October 25, 2015 :eek::eek: They are Smaller?:eek::eek: Gawd. For me it looks huge. Then I am used to being able to walk from Bow to Stern in about ten paces.
JimAOk1945 Posted October 25, 2015 #24 Share Posted October 25, 2015 We enjoyed our Alaska Southbound cruise on the Radiance more than any other ship we have been on for all the reasons given. We hope to sail on her again in the future, or perhaps one of her sister ships.
Trainman-2 Posted October 25, 2015 #25 Share Posted October 25, 2015 There always seems to be something going on in the Centrum! You can watch from just about any deck or go on down and participate.
