.....and the next complaint we'll hear is "Oh there is an enclosed smoking area for smokers in the casino, but the smoke drifts out and I hate cigarette smoke and it's yucky and I can smell it on my balcony...."

There will always be something for smokers and anti-smokers to complain about....just wait....

Concept of the second enclosed room for smokers make me think of the airport smoking rooms (but on a bigger scale of course), and the "cloud" I see each time I go by.

That probably does not faze the smokers. They might even get by with smoking less, since they're essentially "hot boxing" it and enjoying each others second (third/forth/yikes) hand smoke.

I am wondering where it will be located.. My guess would be at the back of the casino where the noodle bar is (at least that is the layout on the Gateway). I don't remember which floor. Your thoughts?

My guess is they'll make the smoking section the entire starboard side ( near Shanghais). The "hallway" pass through which contains slots needs to be non smoking as it is a public passage way through the casino. From the hallway and extending toward the port side would be non smoking is my guess.

I am wondering this as well as this would be almost no different than it is now on the breakaway except that there would be an enclosure. I can't wait for people to complain that smoke escapes when the door is open.

I do know in Atlantic a City the one casino that went smoke free which was gorgeous went bankrupt, never bringing a profitable month. And the smoking areas at the profitable casinos are always packed.. Like waiting for seats with usually the most popular games.placed there. I sit there depending on the slot I want to play and I am a ex smoker.. Just doesn't phase me.. Last time I was in Vegas there was smoking everywhere and not placed even in sections..

This will be interesting how it is handled.. I will say this.. A smoker made uncomfortable will look elsewhere if they spend a ton of time in casinos.. I hope for all they can come up with something acceptable.. To keep the smoke out of the atrium..

I really don't think a nonsmoker will gamble more now. Another 100 then before? That is not a casinos bread and butter.. If you like gambling, you gamble regardless! That is who the casinos need!

Another thing.. If you are a high tier slot player in a normal casino you are allowed to get a slot attendant to hold your machine while your gone.. Some even go eat.. lol maybe a smoking section outdoors near the casino?

I hope they can find a better situation then a airport smoke room.. They are nasty and I don't wish that on anyone.. I am one of those ex smokers that miss it every single day.. 6 years later..

If they put in the correct ventilation system, when the door is opened, the air flow will be into the smoking area, not out, so the smoke should be contained. And if the ventilation system works well, there won't be much smoke left to float out an open door in any case hopefully.

As I have heard said in the past, this train has left the station and it is only a matter of time as to when it arrives at its destination. At some point all cruise will be 100% smoke free. I'm nt taking any stance as to whether or not that should be the case, just simply stating that sooner or later that is where this will end up. All the "They could never do that because..." posts anyone wants to make will not change that.

Don't lose any sleep over it:rolleyes: We'll figure it out. With remarks like you gave, people wonder why smoking threads get out of hand.

Seems like the decision to make a separate enclosed smoking area should make both smokers and nonsmokers happy. Both get what they want.

Non-smokers who now invade the smokers area are now chastised, and pretty much told if you don't like it leave. Now that smokers are going to be confined to what is probably going to be a smaller space than before (virtually the entire casino with a few machines for nonsmokers) it will be interesting to see how happy they are and how many of the smokers (although they now cannot smoke) invade the non-smoking areas to have access to more machines, tables, and more space. Trust me.....we non-smokers know how you feel.

I sometimes go into the non smoking section to play but I will not do that anymore. If CAS is looking at the revenue ratio of smokers vs non-smokers I will not contribute to the non smokers ratio. If they use those figures in the future design of ships I want to have a bigger chunk of the casino.

Being a non-smoker, I have no idea how a smoke filled room might be perceived by a smoker. I had assumed that if a little was good, more might be better.

I'll defer to those with first-hand knowledge on the subject.

Not trying to be inflammatory.

That's really kind of rude. I as a smoker hate those smoking boxes so don't make such a rude comment

No worries G. Watch people like that flip out when the doctors and lobbyists go after all the foods that are bad for you. I can see them banning all you can eat buffets in the future which by the way would include the buffets on ships and hotels.

It would be for their own good ya know, and good for you & me also because we won't have to help subsidize their high insurance premiums and then you and I can use that surplus of cash to smoke all we want in the casino.

See how everything has a way of coming full circle?

Well that was a "fluff over" explanation.

And there will be some who complain about smoking not being illegal and how they have a right to smoke, blah blah blah. Bottom line is that some people will complain no matter what.

My curiosity is whether there will be a separate bar within the smoking area. If that is the case, I doubt there will be much back and forth from the smoking area to the non-smoking area of the casino. I am a smoker, and have no issue with this change, just let me spend my money in peace.

This is my first Norwegian cruise, so I don't have a frame of reference for the area that will be the 'smoking area'. Any insight would be appreciated.
