Peg_S Posted November 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2015 We will be three with one last name and my sister with a different last name. How will we be announced? I don't want my sister to be "slighted" if they go with the majority name, i.e.: "the Smith family". Trivial I guess, but wondering. thanks, Peg
1drifter Posted November 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2015 They ask you for your name, so you can tell them exactly how you would like to be announced. We had 10 people with all different last names, so we just said "Nana's crew". A lot of times I hear things like "The Smith and Jones Families". You can think about it now & then let them know at the door exactly how you'd like to be announced.
meatloafsfan Posted November 27, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2015 You can be announced separately. Your sister goes first, "We welcome the Smith Family". Then the 3 of you, "We welcome the Adam Family." Everyone can have their own announcement.
Peg_S Posted November 27, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted November 27, 2015 Thanks so much for letting me know. I don't know why I was so worried about it... just want to make sure my sister gets her "nod"!! She's the reason we ended up on the boat at all!! Maddysdaddy Posted November 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 27, 2015 Or you could just make up a new name and have them announce you as that. "We welcome the Skywalker family" "We welcome the Kardashian family"
Shmoo here Posted November 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 27, 2015 We will be three with one last name and my sister with a different last name. How will we be announced? I don't want my sister to be "slighted" if they go with the majority name, i.e.: "the Smith family". Trivial I guess, but wondering. thanks, Peg We've always just asked for our first names - "Please welcome Helen & John" Or you could just make up a new name and have them announce you as that. "We welcome the Skywalker family" "We welcome the Kardashian family" Be aware that they have started being picky about using "cute" names.
jrm9999 Posted November 29, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 29, 2015 I heard one family use "The Griswald Family" last week, which I assume was not their real family name.
pmd98052 Posted December 4, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Oh cool so I could have them announce us as "Mr and Mrs Fancypants"?
mek Posted January 4, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 4, 2016 This sounds over the top corny to me. Does everyone do it?
Shmoo here Posted January 4, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 4, 2016 This sounds over the top corny to me. Does everyone do it? No. You can tell them you don't want to be announced, when they ask your name. It sounds corny, but it's fun.
moki'smommy Posted January 4, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 4, 2016 Or you could just make up a new name and have them announce you as that. "We welcome the Skywalker family" "We welcome the Kardashian family" They have gotten a lot more strict about names that they recognize as probably made up. If they don't recognize it as fake, anything goes. No, you don't have to be announced--just ask them to not do it. When you have people with different last names, you can do it any way you want to. When we had my daughter's graduation cruise, they did "daughter's first name and her crew." You can be "the Smith and Jones families" or do it separately "Ms. Smith" and then "the Jones family." Ex techie Posted January 4, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 4, 2016 This sounds over the top corny to me. Does everyone do it? Corny to you maybe, but I bet your Grand or Great Grandkids will love it! ex techie
e2011 Posted January 4, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 4, 2016 (edited) The title of this post was "How are you announced at boarding?" "The King is here. Long Live the King" is how I am announced. :) Happy New Year and enjoy the cruise! Edited January 4, 2016 by e2011
1soccer1baseball1princess Posted January 28, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 28, 2016 A friend and I just cruised together. We thought the announcement part might be awkward since we weren't family or a couple. But the staff just asked us for our first names and we were introduced as Tara and Brandy, separately.
