question about ? clam shell type for shade

We were at Labadee a few years ago and because we stayed in a suite, we went to Barefoot Beach I think.

As we walked around and went to the vendor area we noticed on the beach these clam shell type things for shade. We will be returning to Labadee next month and going to a different beach area - not in a suite.

Do you have to pay to rent these or are they just first come first serve on the beaches?

I am not talking about the cabanas - do not want to spend that much money..

 

Any help would be appreciated....

I am deleting my post to stand corrected on my misunderstanding of the clam shells.

 

I thought they were free, because I have never seen them on our booking site for rentals on Labadee.

You have to rent the clam shells ... but they aren't expensive.

That's true...but shade under a tree is FREE! You can move the loungers wherever you want them to be!

While the clamshells do provide some shade, it gets REALLY hot inside. Propping the back end up a few inches with a rock or your bag or book allows some air to flow through and brings the temperature down a little. We used ours more as a storage place for our gear and spent most of the time in the water.
