Mamma D Posted December 17, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Sailing on NCL Escape in February. First time in St Thomas and asking for suggestions on excursions. We like to sight see...not really big shoppers or people that want to sit at a beach all day but wouldn't mind touring a few beaches and shops. Basically we would like to tour the island. Some of the reviews for the bus trips are not real good so leaning more towards renting a vehicle. I know you drive on the left side (shoulder to shoulder) but reading some older posts it is not recomended due to the heavy traffic, narrow roads, etc. NCL offers a jeep tour, has anyone done that? Open to any and all suggestions.
Ms411 Posted December 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2015 If you rent a vehicle you may have trouble parking at popular spots, though you should find parking at the beaches. You could reserve a private tour that can take you where you want to go but most have a 4 person minimum.
Mike C Posted December 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 18, 2015 We used Henry Christopher a couple of times for tours in St Thomas. http://eeetours.com/meethenry.html
blue_water Posted December 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 18, 2015 If you want a group tour with others you can find a driver at the port offering that or book in advance with one of the cookie cutter tours. We would prefer a private driver like Stanley Coran or one of the taxi drivers that advertise. Just a nicer experience and your day is yours... You can find Stanley's contact info as well as others just by using the search function. Driving is quite easy and a good option. As mentioned you may find parking difficult at Drake's Seat or the scenic overlook depending on where the tours are at that moment. But no problem at Mountaintop or any of the beaches. champagne lover Posted December 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2015 We were there on the Escape cruise leaving 14th November and pre-booked a tour with http://www.deanstaxiandtours.com. It cost us $125 for 4 people, Dean was waiting for us as we came off the ship at 9.00, a spotlessly clean minibus just for us. He was very friendly, helpful and told us lots about the island. We had a tour, seeing all the best places, stopped at Mountain Top, did a bit of shopping, saw beaches then he dropped us at Secret Harbour beach for a couple of hours. We had booked sunbeds there, did some great snorkeling and had lunch at the restaurant on the beach - just fabulous. Dean came back for us again and took us back to town - an extra $10 pp. We had an amazing day and would definitely use Dean again and highly recommend him to others. How long was your tour (minus beach time)? I am working with Dean right now to set up a tour. How long should I allow for an island tour --minus beach time. 2 hour? 3 hours? blue_water Posted December 29, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 29, 2015 How long was your tour (minus beach time)? I am working with Dean right now to set up a tour. How long should I allow for an island tour --minus beach time. 2 hour? 3 hours? For your first island tour on STT we'd recommend at least 3 hrs to cover the basics, 4 hrs to also visit the different beaches (including Hull Bay) before going to SH. It really depends on your time in port and your interests. 2 hrs would be enough for a few popular stops. Stanley Coram is another taxi driver who provides private and group tours and also works at the Secret Harbour Resort if you need another contact. Very nice gentleman, you'll find his phone number by searching the forum. Enjoy your day!
Barwick Cruiser Posted December 30, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 30, 2015 Aqua Action dive center at the Secret Harbour condo resort -http://www.aadivers.com Have just inquired with Aqua Action regarding a dive for DH while we're in port. Their website doesn't say anything about accomodating cruise passengers so hopefully they'll respond. I'm also hoping that I'll be able to accompany him to Secret Harbour where I can relax for the day...need to check if they do day passes....thanks for the link and info! Thanks Ms411 and Bluewater for that info...now just have to wait for reply from aadivers...not sure if they'll pick up from the cruise terminal or if we'll need to take a cab there. They don't have info on cruise passengers on their website so hopefully they'll be able to accomodate DH and our schedule.
blue_water Posted December 30, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 30, 2015 You will need to grab a taxi, the taxi coordinator at the dock will help you, $20pp round trip.
