Rare POA1 Posted December 18, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 18, 2015 Sounds like a busy, busy day! There's time for one last Westerdam carol before Christmas is upon us - unless a Westerdam version of Auld Lang Syne somehow shows up before the New Year's cruise. This one's sung to the tune of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," so I owe apologies to John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie**. Westerdam Is Tooting Her Horn (To the tune of Santa Claus is Coming to Town) Please webcam don't crashDon't lock up on me.Please, don't lose sound.'Cause I want to see!Westerdam is leaving port now. She's passing the camAnd tooting her hornIf my screen locks,I'll sure be forlorn.Westerdam is leaving port now. The condos are saluting. The Westerdam honks back.Could this be a record number?Oh, I think that we're on track. Please webcam don't hangDon't blow up I fear.Crave my tooting fix.And I want to hear!Westerdam is blowing her horn.Westerdam is blowing her horn! ======= If you've ever felt like writing your own ditties, here's the basic process: First, grab a copy of the song lyrics for the tune you want to ruin. Next, count the syllables in each line and note the number. That gives you the meter. After that, I usually open up a second window in my text editor and tile them vertically, with the real lyrics on the right and the work space on the left. As I write, each line is across from its real counterpart in the lyrics. I usually sing them to myself a few times to make sure they sound okay. After I post them, I make sure to review them, because I occasionally find that there are ways to improve the flow, or that the meter's a little forced. **They had trouble convincing anyone to produce it because it was seen as a kids' song, which would have been very hard to sell. The big break came when Eddie Cantor sang it on his radio show in 1934, and the song became an instant hit. Coots was a writer for Cantor's show and pushed for the host to perform it. Cantor was going to pass on the song but was convinced by his wife, Ida, to give it a try.
Boytjie Posted December 18, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted December 18, 2015 OK, I took a stab at it... not quite POA1 quality... I Saw Three Ships I saw three ships come sailing in, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale,I saw three ships come sailing in, For another ship sail-away. And who were watching ships sail-away? Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale,And who were watching ships sail-away? All Cruise Critics addicts OK. Pray whither sailed those ships all three? Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale,Pray whither sailed those ships all three? The sunny Caribbean away. And all the toots the ships shall ring, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale,And all the toots the ships shall ring, On Westerdam is the glory. And all the Addicts on webcam shall sing,Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale,And all the Addicts on webcam shall sing,We wish we were sailing today. Then let us all rejoice and say,Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale,Then let us all rejoice and say,We’ll do it again tomorrow.

Rare POA1 Posted December 19, 2015 #20 Share Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Apologies to Peter, who got to this song first - but the minute he posted about 3 HAL ships for Saturday's Sail Away, I had pretty much the same thing in mind. However, Boytjie did Three Ships Sailing In, so I'll take the Outbound part. It's like an Epic Rap Battle, only with Cruise Ships, Christmas Carols, and Webcams. We See Three Ships (Sung to the tune of I Saw Three Ships) We see three ships are sailing outOn Saturday, On SaturdayWe see three ships are sailing outOn Saturday in the PM. And pray tell what those ships might be?Port Everglades, Port Everglades. And pray tell what those ships might be?Port Everglades in the PM. The schedule says the WesterdamThe Westerdam, The WesterdamThe Westerdam's the first one outAt least according to schedule. How many toots you'll think we hear? From Westerdam, From WesterdamYou think a record might be setBy Westerdam as she's leaving? The Maasdam is the next one out.On Saturday, On Saturday. The Maasdam is the next one outAt four fifteen on the schedule. She's headed out towards Half Moon CayTo Half Moon Cay, To Half Moon CayShe's headed out towards Half Moon CayShe'll be there on Sunday morning.
