princesstiffany Posted January 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Sooooo- I normally cruise with my nieces or friends. My nieces are pre teen and my friends are my age- clearly different cruises. So we have a short cruise coming up with me and my nieces and my brother (their dad) and his wife (sister in law). Apparently new wife is artsy crafty and has cruised a bit in her own right. She makes these really cool foil key chains made of bits from her past cruises. Apparently she thinks she can lay these out on her pool chair and sell them to other cruisers. I don't know of any policy that says no but that seems like a big no to me. I am sharing a cabin with a few of the kiddos and frankly I just don't want to get kicked off the boat mid cruise because she has gone all HSC on them. SadieN Posted January 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Don't know if it's allowed but I have seen a gal trying to sell a light up map in Princess buffet and another gal (on HAL) actually somehow convinced the shop manager to allow her to sell a book. loxley Posted January 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2016 No selling or solicitation allowed. I doubt they would throw her off, but she would be asked top stop. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
fam2cruise Posted January 7, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Ugh, carnival is already trying to sell me a bunch of crap, I don't want the passengers doing it too! Not relaxing vacation if your trying to hawk your stuff. Just my opinion.
TEXASMUNK Posted January 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2016 We have seen something like this....Every time they are advised to cease and stop now! Once, only once, did I see security called and the person escorted away from the pool area. It is forbidden. PS and that is after a whole lot of cruises, a whole lot. lido deck larry Posted January 7, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Uhhh, yeah, probably not the best idea. Had she tried Etsy instead? She could sell them there online, and print up some cheap business cards. When someone says "I love your keychain" out comes the business card.. "you can buy one right now if you have Internet access on board, or when you get home....." Edited January 7, 2016 by lido deck larry

Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk Yep, this. But in case you want to maybe subtly show her the rules, here is the link to your ticket contract: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Static_Templates/ticket_contract.aspx?icid=CC_Footer_84 Specifically, this section is what you'd want her to notice: 8. COMPLIANCE WITH RULES, SOLICITATION, SMOKING, DRINKING, ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, SEARCHES (a) Guest agrees during the course of the voyage to follow the directions of the ship's Master, or his authorized officer. Guest further agrees not to solicit anyone on the vessel for any commercial or professional purposes. Guest agrees that any violation of this Clause may subject guest to disembarkation. ajee622 Posted January 7, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Does she need to money to pay for cheers?? I mean seriously. I was on a cruise where a guy handed out business cards about how his dad died and he loved cruising. Nice guy but it was awkward. Your post kind of falls in line with my trashy comment about carnival cruise line Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rare LMaxwell Posted January 7, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Solicitation is not allowed. It is not a flea market or craft fair.
Taters Posted January 7, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 7, 2016 It is bad enough to be solicited by the people in the ports. This kind of thing on board would make me feel very uncomfortable.

Maybe you should nudge her to sell her wares on a site such as ETSY. I have also seen a venue that sells cruise items on social media.

kelkel2 Posted January 7, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 7, 2016 She likely wouldn't be kicked off the ship unless she didn't stop when asked. But like others have said, no it's not allowed and honestly I don't think too many people would appreciate it much. Most people don't appreciate being approached and sales pitched, especially if that comes from a fellow passenger.

Maybe one of those new adult colouring (spelled correctly) books? I hear they calm people down ;) Some people like to read the news, but it's depressing, so we go to Carnival posts to get the daily humor in. It's like reading the comic strip in the newspaper, but with online news, the comics are not available, so we just jump to these boards for the daily laughter! Elaine5715 Posted January 7, 2016 #20 Share Posted January 7, 2016 I would nicely first suggest that ships are cashless and she can't charge the Sail and Sign Cards. Then ask her if she has researched tax implications for taking sale items outside the country and returning with them through Customs who asks if you have any commercial items. Third, I would just get a chair nearly by and film the hilarity once she sets up her "booth". Of course, she will need to get up about 5 am to reserve one of the prime selling loungers. princesstiffany Posted January 7, 2016 Author #21 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Thank you everyone who gave well intentioned responses. I will recommend she do something like etsy. ajee622 Posted January 7, 2016 #24 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Huh? Exactly my point. You get weirdos on the ship. Like seriously if someone in my group tried that I'd laugh my ass off and tell them they are a moron. If it's not about the money than the lady should just hand them out for free. It'd be a lot easier for me to accept someone walking around and saying to me that on every cruise they like to hand these to everyone to celebrate the cruise or something. Rather than try to sell it to me!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cruiseonthebrain Posted January 7, 2016 #25 Share Posted January 7, 2016 OP- I am sorry if this sounds snarky but I am envisioning different business opportunities onboard for passengers right now. Like custom embroidering stolen carnival towels for others. Or offering a PI service to look in on significant others who may be cheating. Maybe hiring yourself out as a chair hog to hold other people's chairs when they are gone for hours. Designated pee-er for folks who don't want to get out of the pool or hot tub. The opportunities are endless!
