NCL heard my story and offered this:

125$ OBC which is 25% of the price Difference and stay put

Upgrade to a Mini Suite

Upgrade to an AFT

I opted to upgrade to the AFT and will be taking full advantage of the Ultimate Beverage Package.......

I believe you made a nice choice. I have cruised aft several times and it is wonderful. That balcony. No wind. It is wonderful place to sit at night. So still and quiet. It is almost mystical and magical.

Also, the location of your cabin in the aft tends to be quiet with less hall traffic.

Good for you! Hope you enjoy it.

Could someone guide me in the right direction on how to handle this situation...

1249 pp booked and final payment complete and now the price dropped to 1009pp

NCL offered a complimentary upgrade after calling them to either AFT or Mini Suite.

Has anyone negotiated beyond the upgrade? I don't feel it is an upgrade when I am content with my Balcony but the 480$ price diff for the two of us makes me feel like I was taken advantage of.

If I go with the upgrade can I negotiate the remaining difference to wifi, specialty restaurant, or OBC?

They have offered more than you are entitled to receive. If you don't want the cabin they offer stay where you are but don't expect any money or OBC coming your way.

If you bought a car and found it on sale a few days later for $5K less, do you think the dealer would do anything for you? Of course NOT. Why should the cruise line?

BTW, if you take the upgrade don't take the aft unless you want to bounce around and feel vibrations constantly, afts are the worst cabins we have ever been in.

Final payment complete and past final payment date?

Edit: After reading Harriet's response... do you surrender your right to rebook after you make final payment even if its prior to the final payment date?

No she is completely wrong. The date that matters is not when you make final payment, but is instead the day that final payment is due from everyone.

You can cancel and rebook if you want but once final payment has been paid you are past final payment.....therefore there is a penalty for cancelling.

Unless that penalty is much less then the cost of the new cruise you book (which usually is not the case) it really does not pay!

PRIOR to final payment you may rebook at the current going rate. Most people do double check prices before making their final payment. One thing to remember, however, is once you cancel in order to rebook your cabin goes back into the 'pool' and you may not get that cabin again.

Harriet

This is completely incorrect. More bad information!

Final payment due date is the date that matters, not the day you make final payment.

I bought a Christmas tree the day before Christmas Eve for $10 from a lot that had a bunch left.

The trees were tagged upwards of $40 and higher.

Was everyone who bought trees 2-4 weeks and paid that earlier taken advantage of?

Cruise ships to Christmas trees is probably the ultimate apples to oranges comparison

Sorry but the analogy is spot on.

Unsold inventory - either you sell it for what you can or you don't sell it at all.

Only difference is that the cruise line will still generate a whole bunch more money after the cabin cost.

Your lucky you were even given the option to upgrade. As many times said before.....you were happy with the price you paid before final payment. Either take the upgrade or move on simple.

The difference is that the people who paid $40 for their trees got to enjoy them from the time they paid for them.

If I paid $40 in advance for my tree and when I went to pick it up, saw that the price had dropped to $10, I would expect a $30 refund.

Duh they had a fresher tree for 2 to 4 weeks longer than the drying out dec 23 rd tree. Lol

I try never to look at the price after final payment, I would just get upset. Some cruise lines upgrade or give OBC and others do not. Airlines work the same way, I peeked at a flight only to find it $300 cheaper than what I paid. BTW, I love the aft balcony. Beautiful view and the perfect way to unwind.

Christmas tree logic doesn't make any sense

You are using the tree at the time of purchase as well as a used car.

I understand the concept. NCL has the advantage on this as well as many other things

And where can you buy trees for 10 bucks. I might hold out next year.

Vince, this was not a guaranteed Balcony. I opted out of the 999$ guarantee and paid the 1249 to pick my room. Now you can pick your room for 1009 and book a guarantee for 899.

To All - I will enjoy my trip without worry I just want to reach out for past experiences as I know NCL will not be reaching out to me and saying hey we want to offer you OBC. Wifi, specialty dining, or casino match - All things that will be almost no cost to them.

When I hit the Powerball I will be traveling on my own ship!

There is no such thing as no cost just as there is no such thing as free.

Irrelevant when you use it. It is when you enter into the contract that matters. You buy a brand new house (at times) months before it is ready to be used. If prices go up or down in the new development, your contract does not get adjusted. If rates change on a loan after the lock period you do not get an adjustment.

They are having a fire sale. Why do you think that they owe you something?

They also carry a lot more risk and have a lot more invested in making this cruise happen than the passengers do… It sounds like you want to be able to cancel penalty-free until the last minute. That would be giving the customers the advantage, except that prices would be higher across the board, and they would stay high right until saildate. So you would still be in your original balcony, and you would have paid more for it.

Do you still feel taken advantage of?

Again - poor logic, when you purchase a new home it is either ready to move in and was purchased (closed)and is yours or closing has not yet occurred and is yes still negotiable.

Once closed you have agreed to the final purchase price and it is a done deal.

The housing market goes up and down and that is when you look to see if it is the right time to buy. Then a Meth clinic or Landfill lands in the area and the prices drop 20% like mine did and the value of the home went from 500K to 400K you will be asking your realtor to re negotiate because you feel it is unfair.

As far as a loan goes you can just go to a different Bank. If the APR is locked at 5% and drops 4% (20% like my cruise) I would think if you know any type of money management your going to ask some questions in a forum like I did.

And then move your loan across the street.

This is why I said NCL has the advantage and that is why I was asking for cruisers with experience to this.

NCL worked with me and gave me an upgrade. They also offered me a 125$ OBC if I stayed put. Why? because this is business and they want to show that they do care. I will continue my business with them and have moved my focus to looking for a great time!

I'm in a similar situation. My cabins went down too. I would be more than happy with an upgrade but I was wondering if it is less than 30 days away would I still be able to get an upgrade (if I'm offered one) and still have my UBP and dining plan perk that got when I booked? I wouldn't want to lose that. I know that they don't offer the perks if you book less than 30 days out so that might be why they drop the prices too.
