Reijo Posted January 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2016 I have a friend sailing on the Westerdam and has asked a couple of questions. I'm not familiar with Holland America so hope someone can help. Does this ship have hair dryers and do they supply shampoo? Would appreciate any help so I can pass it along. luvteaching Posted January 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2016 The cabins have hair dryers and shampoo is provided. I have short no-fuss hair and I'm fine with the shampoo and don't use the hair dryer. Others will chime in with more info. Karen

Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted January 22, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2016 I've used the hair dryer on HAL ships and it's OK. I can't remember hating or loving it, so it must have done the job without a fight. Toiletries are by Elemis. Bath gel, soap (this may not be Elemis, I forget), shampoo, conditioner. EbayCruiser Posted January 22, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2016 Hair dryer is fine .... I have long thick hair and it works okay for me. I bring my own travel bottles of shampoo and conditioner but I am picky. :)
Rare Hlitner Posted January 22, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2016 DW says the hair dryer is OK, but she still prefers her own small powerful travel hair dryer (can't teach an old wife new tricks). As to shampoo, like many ladies..DW is a bit choosy and will sometimes bring her own favorite shampoo....and other times use whatever is provided. I no longer ask :). Sailingpeace Posted January 24, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) Medium lenth hair, thick and curly. Dryer does the job well. Use ship shampoo but I bring my own conditionner . Not related to hair , but shower gel is heaven as far as I am concerned. Edited January 24, 2016 by Sailingpeace
cabinluvn Posted January 24, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 24, 2016 Bringing your own hair dryer aboard is not allowed. They will take and keep it until the end of the cruise. I don't know about curling. Irons. I have tinted hair and use their shampoo and conditioner and it is not harsh or drying. Daisyloo Posted January 24, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 24, 2016 I have never had them take away my hair dryer on any ship. There is a hairdryer in every cabin, and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in dispensers in the shower.
Lizzie68 Posted January 24, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) I have never had them take away my hair dryer on any ship. There is a hairdryer in every cabin, and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in dispensers in the shower. I've had a hairdryer in my luggage, too, because we usually spend a few days in port prior to a cruise, and I always pack my travel hair dryer. So far - touch wood - I haven't had it taken away. I usually use theirs but have brought my own no problem and curling irons and flat irons (hair) are absolutely permitted.
cabinluvn Posted January 24, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 24, 2016 I was told that the hairdryer was like a coffee maker or any other small appliance that was not allowed in the cabin. I must be mistaken. I n very take a hairdryer anywhere. Hotels always have them and the ship's hair dryer works fine for me. Less to pack Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Koshlong Posted January 24, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 24, 2016 I always bring a hair iron or curling iron or both. I've never had any trouble.
AECrowell Posted January 26, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 26, 2016 Just off the Westerdam and can report that the hair dryer can be found inside the desk cabinet, top shelf on the lefthand side. I believe you can only plug it in at the desk; at any rate, not in the bathroom.
Mrsfrz Posted February 3, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 3, 2016 Curling irons and hair straighteners are fine. The HAL website has a wealth of information on what is permitted on board. No regular irons are allowed.
sapper1 Posted February 3, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 3, 2016 I have taken a hair dryer and/or curling iron on every cruise I have been on and have never had them confiscated.

cabinluvn Posted February 3, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 3, 2016 The plug on the hairdryer is a European connection. The plug outlet in the bathroom is for 120v so it doesn't fit Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
RMLincoln Posted February 3, 2016 #21 Share Posted February 3, 2016 Hand/body lotion is also provided in small bottles, also Elemis. It is replenished by the room steward as needed. Enjoy, m--
