6 of us Posted January 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) WE haven't gotten off the ship in Freeport in ages. It was probably 5 years ago & we took a taxi to a public beach, walked down a long path with a fence down the road from a bunch of shops, but the beach had eroded away so... it wasn't the best. We did have a great time swimming in the beautiful water, but there was no place for food, drinks or bathrooms, just a long skinny strip of sand behind a bunch of private homes & I think a few buildings. Hard ot remember exactly. All that to say, it's just the husband & I & I would like to get off the boat & do something relaxing & fun. What is your favorite thing to do? Nice resort with stuff to do. I would love your opinions & advice & best way to book your recommendation. Thank you guys! Edited January 24, 2016 by 6 of us
JMHAM1 Posted January 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2016 There is not a lot to do in Freeport. We were in the same mind set as you on our last cruise. It was the kids first time and we really wanted to get off the ship and give them the island experience. We booked the Grand Lucyan and really enjoyed it. I am posting some of my pics so you can see for yourself. We booked online through ShoreExcursioner, paid a small deposit and the rest had to be paid IN CASH at the gate. If it had just been DH and I we may have gone to Gold's or Gold's point (something like that) for snorkeling. I didn't feel comfortable being responsible for watching 6 kids snorkeling so we did the resort. There were plenty of fish to see just swimming around in the shallow water. There is also a shopping complex across the street from the resort and a casino next door.

6 of us Posted January 26, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted January 26, 2016 That looks nice. We are going to a beach on the Nassau day so I'm not sure if I want to just beach it again. Can you tell me about the Gold's resort & the snorkeling? Have you gone there?
MelissaHagood Posted January 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2016 We just got back from our cruise about two weeks ago. We got a taxi at the port for $14 each and went to Port Lucaya marketplace. There is a very small public beach area. It's kind of rocky. There's a restaurant there on the beach called Billie Joe's which has great seafood. Cash only though. How far is the Grand Lucyan from the port and did you take a cab? Beautiful pics!!
brunello22 Posted February 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2016 We rented a car and visited the secluded beaches in and around Lucayan National Park. The caverns were really cool to visit. We love that part of the island because there are very few tourists that go to those beaches.
mom2girlsVT Posted February 4, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 4, 2016 We will be in Freeport 7am to 1pm and thinking of getting a day pass to Grand Lucayan. Will they let us in that early? I've seen other day passes that don't open until 9am.

We enjoyed the beach. We also booked on shoreexcursioneer. However, I ended up having an issue with the e-ticket they sent (I blame my phone not them) & purchased on site which saved $15. Getting the refund was easy & fast. I'd recommend them if you're going at a popular time. I didn't love Freeport. I have no desire to return. But Grand Lucayan is a good place to spend the day. smarks Posted February 6, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Thanks for the info and the pictures. This looks like a place my grandkids would enjoy. The pool looks beautiful. We will be going in Oct.
smarks Posted February 6, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Can you book the Grand Lucayan day pass though the resort directly and get a cab there or is it best to book the though the tour company? Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. You definitely can purchase on site. However, my understanding is that the number of passes offered is limited. If you're going at a popular time & don't want to worry yourself with a back up plan, purchasing online with shoreexcursioneer or the like is probably advisable. I mentioned above I purchased on shoreexcursioneer & then my phone containing my e-tickets would not cooperate. As it was a 70 degree day in January, we were easily able to obtain tickets on site. I got my deposit to shoreexcursioneer refunded quite easily. Edited February 6, 2016 by Drose716

I will have 2 anxious kids with me. There will be 5 of us with possibly another joining us. We will be going on a Fall Break in Oct. Don't know if that will be a busy time or not. We did end up waiting for a van to fill. It was only about a 2 or 3 minute wait on the way there so it didn't bother me. On the way back we waited 10 minutes and then as I threatened to walk off suddenly we went back not quite full. You can find an individual can also but there was less of them than the vans. If you see an individual cab, I'd definitely opt for that.
