Finally and I mean finally something good on ncl has happened. Breakway now has a new menu on the breakaway. From what I heard new pot pies, 3 different new burgers, bangers and mash a variety of hot dogs and more new beer. Haven't seen the menu yet. Let's HOPE it stay complimentary and won't go all carte. If it stays free then yay ncl you finally did something good.

Finally did something good? How negative are you? If you are so down on NCL then it may make sense to take your custom elsewhere.

Considering all the changes in the last year...

  • Nickelodeon gone
  • Geoffrey Zakarian gone
  • 18% gratuity on specialty dining
  • DSC raised twice
  • drink prices raised
  • 18% gratuity on drinks
  • 18% gratuity on food/coffee purchases ( Java Cafe/Carlo's/gelato etc)
  • Asian Noodle restaurant complimentary but reduced menu
  • Hippo Slide on GSC gone
  • Fireworks gone
  • UDP is now SDP
  • UBP used to be for everyone in room, but now it's just first two passengers
  • Room service $7.95 except for a much smaller limited "continental breakfast"
  • Blue Man Group gone
  • Now pay taxes on "free" UBP/SDP
  • No more kids pricing in specialty restaurants
  • Port times shortened on a number of itineraries "for your convenience"
  • No more free Cirque or Illusionarium on first night with dining package
  • Margaritaville on Escape is now a la carte. Used to be included.
  • Cancellation policy got much worse.

Yeah, it's nice to see a positive. And yes, after I take this cruise that I booked since July, I'm taking a break from NCL. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Too bad they took off mozzarella sticks. They launched the new menu early last week. They should have removed the cabbage soup as there is enough gas on board.

We had that menu on the Star in January. We missed the pot pie, chicken fingers, other soups...

One day the hot dog was big and fat, one day small and skinny. Ok place to eat, with party atmosphere, but nothing special. The "dirty water hot dogs" from the carts on the BA are better.

Safe sailing

Blue Man Group gone, YES, thank you.

Don't like the charging of gratituities for drinks packages.

What fireworks?

Some of the changes are petty, others not so great.

Still NCL remains an option when considering other cruise lines.

Based on what my husband said, the shepherd's pie is absolute garbage. He said it tastes like a sloppy joe with instant potatoes on top. They sprinkled Parmesan cheese on top of the potatoes. I guess they weren't going for traditional? He took one bite and couldn't eat the rest.

Black & blue was decent, but because of safety concerns, they can no longer cook anything medium rare without a waiver signed for your stateroom. I thought the chicken fajitas were good as well.

I was reading it thinking the same. Was going to quote and retort, but can't be bothered.

Yeah, I have complained about that list a couple of times. Some are contractual shows that will always change ... you hope! Who wants to see Blue Man Group more than once or twice? Replacing that show with one that is just as high quality isn't a negative change at all. It's a positive one.

And the early reviews here of the King's Foundation children's program are that it's very, very good, much better than the Spongebob characters it replaced.

But when you are making a list, and you want to keep whining about it, you aren't going to take anything off the list even if it's wrong.

The menu linked above is the one we had on the Escape transatlantic cruise. Is this the same as the one being mentioned on Breakaway?

I assumed it was the new fleet wide menu??? Apologies if it's not.

Recognized it too!

edit: and seems to in order with the roll out; http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2306907, BA all new this month.

I don't see anything about the pot pies, they were removed on Escape. Another favourite of mine was the chicken fingers, I'd get buffalo sauce on the side and have "cleaner" wings.

The menu looks ok.

But is it good?

The shepherds pie being not so good has been mentioned in other threads

Anyone try the bangers and mash?

Not sure its a good change or not.

NCL has plenty of iffy changes it seems.

Some people have enjoyed the fajitas, I found them more of a stir fry taste, and didn't enjoy them very much.

The nachos were terrible. Up here in Canuckistan when you order nachos, you get real melty cheddar cheese and not the cheeze whiz kind of sauce you get at ball parks. The nachos were more like the cheeze whiz.

The burgers are still great, I really like them for a quick lunch or at 4:00 to fill my tummy before bed :)

I miss the pot pie, mozzerella sticks and chicken fingers though.

Lordy, I can't stand the O'Sheehans fajitas... the chicken fingers... I make some pretty good ones at home so it would be difficult to beat those anyway... I/we loved some of the soups they offered. Being from the far east coast of Canada... (reference lobster /wieners) I love anything down east social like Cabbage Soup and Corned beef hash. O'Sheehans is our kind of Pub Food restaurant... down east style. :p

We do enjoy our cruises on NCL but with all the changes.... who knows what the future will bring.

I am just confused about one thing. Is it confirmed that this is definitely the exact menu that's been implemented at O'Sheehan's on Breakaway? FootballParent, are you on there now or did someone on there tell you? I only ask because there have been scattered reports that the new menus on Escape (at least at specialties) aren't exactly the same as what will be rolled out on the other ships. I know that this week's sailing on Breakaway is the first with the new menus, so I am curious if it's exactly the same as what we have seen for Escape. It looks pretty decent. I spend a solid percentage of my pre-cruise daydreaming time on food [emoji1], so I am eager to see to what extent those Escape menus are the fleet-wide ones!

This menu looks exactly like what was on the Star back in April. I was sad to see the pot pie gone. It was a favorite of mine when I was on the Epic. However, being from Flint, Michigan originally I was so excited to see a coney dog on the menu. These were a staple when I was growing up. In my experience everything I tried from the new menu was good. I am not sure if NCL has been testing new things among the different ships in the fleet. I understand to continue to bring a new and exciting cruise experience they must make some changes. Some will like them some will not. Also, these new meg ships cost money so I expect and understand that some changes with prices and gratuities will change. I think all the lines change them and charge more over time. I still think cruising is one of the best vacations out there for what is included and the ports you can stop in. For myself I love it.
