I would say about 50/50 depending on the cruise. A dark suit will be fine if you don't want to bring a tux.

George wears a dark suit on formal nights as he has yet to buy a tux. He was going to, then he decided to lose a bunch of weight. So he didn’t want to buy something that wouldn’t fit and would require massive alterations. He has lost the weight now, so maybe I should get him back to the idea of buying a tux.
