2. Is the Djurgårdsfärjan stop at Vasa - or just the one near Abba? np happy to walk

I have taken the Djurgården ferry. It stops very close to the Vasa - just by Gröna Lund's main entrance on Djurgården. It is a very short, pleasant walk from here to the Vasa (about 5 minutes).

1. I am not sure but would guess that not many know of the ferry (M/S Emelie).

2. It has three stops, Old Town/Slussen (at the Old customs house at Skeppsbron), Skeppsholmen (I think you need to notify in advance that you want to get off their) and Allmänna Gränd (Djurgården).

 

3. Cruise ship stop is Londonviadukten) From Old Town eastern side (Slottsbacken or Räntmästartrappan) bus #53 towards Henriksdalsberget or Finnberget,

From Old Town western side. No direct bus.

 

From Slussen, either #53 as mentioned above, bus #71 towards Jarlaberg, bus #409 towards Duvnäs Utskog, bus # 449 towards Ektorp or bus #471 towards Västra Orminge.

All 4xx buses are less frequent then #53 and #71.

Vasa is a must and so is Old Town.

 

I have not visited the City hall or Abba the museum but I think both are worth a visit.

 

The choice I would make is to choose Abba over the City hall for the following practical reasons:

 

1. Abba allows you to make a ticket reservation in advance, guaranteeing you to be able to get in at a certain point.

For the CH you can only visit it by going on their guided tours and tickets can only be bought on location at the CH. The English tours starts every 30 minutes.

2. At AB. you can leave when you feel that you are ready as opposite to doing a guided tour,

3. Abba is just some 500-600m walk from Vasa and have harbour ferries berthing just 100m away which will take you directly to Old Town.

No need to spend time on buying bus tickets or travel cards anything like that. Just pay when you board the ferry (or HoHo boat in the morning)

 

The order you should it is: Vasa->Abba->Royal Palace->Old Town.

As for transport use HoHo boats or ferries in the morning, then use Djurgårdsfärjan when going from Abba to Old Town.

Finally as you suggested yourself, walk from Old Town to ship, but remember to use the scenic route.

I think the scenic route is on the top of the cliff, with beautiful wiews on Stockholm : Katarinavägen, Fjällgatan, Erstagatan ( nice church in a garden, view on the town). The "wrong way" should be the seaside road, very busy and not panoramic. If you are tired, bus n° 53 takes the scenic road, you may stop for photos and take the next one. Bus 53 stops not far from s167.

Yep, AL54 is correct. Scenic route means nice view and surroundings with less traffic, it is longer and much more elevated though.

I don't know how much or if at all this will affect cruise passengers/tourists in Stockholm, but anyway.

Klarabergsgatan that stretches from Centralstation to Sergelstorg will be closed permanently for car traffic from next week.

The road will be re-opened in 2018 but as a Pedestrian zone/pedestrian precinct.

Another matter is that there since April 1st is a new law that regulates compensations when there is delays when you are travelling with public transport.

There are three levels of compensations:

No unfortunately it is not. I don't know why but that is the way it is.

If you want to pre-purchase tickets, you can use the official ticket app though but it only sells single tickets.

Our cruise is in August and arriving in Stockholm On Aug. 16, Tuesday. Norwgian Star's Berth is S364. We want to do Vasa first, then we will try to catch the Free walking tour of Gamla Stan outside the Metro station of Gamla Stan.

 

is it better just to take the taxi from the Berth since everybody will try to take the HoHo boat? We are a party of 11. So we thought, if we share the cab ride it would be cheaper to go to Vasa.

Also, from Vasa, is it easier to take the cab to catch the walking tour?

 

Since we don't have enough time, we thought Vasa and Gamla Stan are the points we need to see. ABBA would be nice even the Nobel museum but reality check, we can't do it all.
