pinkaboo Posted October 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Really interested in purchasing sterling silver and would like to go to Taxco Mexico. Haven't been able to find any ships that stop there or even has it as a port of call. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice. Are there any other cruise lines that have Taxco mexico as a Port of Call? Are there any ports of call that carry any specialty silver shops? What town is close to Taxco? KINGBOBOFTHENORTH Posted October 11, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2005 On my map of Mexico the town Taxco is south of Mexico City not too far off the toll road to Acapulco. Acapulco would be the only port city nearby with cruises. Taxco is well-inland. BobK/Orlando

Sunshine&Smiles Posted October 11, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Been to Taxco twice on trips. It was our mid-way stop between Mexico City and Acapulco. It definitely is inland. However, it is a great town and it is known as the silver capital of the world...lots of it. Closes port would be Acapulco.
sailor moon Posted October 11, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Most Mexican towns carry silver made from Taxco-- you will find the name stamped as official pieces from there along with the silver content stamp.
digital_curator Posted October 11, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 11, 2005 I used to live in Mexico and while silver in Taxco is slightly cheaper than the rest of the country and there is possibly a larger selection there, if you bargin well you can get the same price in either Acapulco or Cozumel. Just make sure that your pieces are stamped with 925 and you will be fine. Not to discourage you from going (I think Taxco is a lovely town) but it would be a trek in from Acapulco and you wouldn't have much time to shop and you would need it- there are many, many stores. Taxco is much better planned for a land vacation IMHO. Cheers,
