dongordon Posted February 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) When the Breakaway docks in Bermuda, are the Port side Balconies facing the pier or vice versa? Don Edited February 23, 2016 by dongordon
DDD06 Posted February 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2016 Could be either side. No way to tell.
jd1966 Posted February 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) Port facing the pier on our trip. Seems to be this way almost every time I view on the PTZ port cam Edited February 23, 2016 by jd1966
dongordon Posted February 23, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted February 23, 2016 Could be either side. No way to tell. Thanks... I thought they may have a preference when they dock. :) Don
Demonyte Posted February 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2016 No, the direction varies based on several variables (weather, maintenance needs, crew lifeboat drills, etc, etc).
Johnny Bananas Posted February 23, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2016 I copied this from someone who posted it last year: port starboard port port port starboard port port port starboard port starboard port starboard starboard port port starboard port port starboard port port
TheDougOut Posted February 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 23, 2016 Last year, it seemed 75% of the time it was docked along the portside, with the captain spinning the ship prior to docking. Later in the year it seemed to get closer to 50/50. In regards to variables that determine direction, I've often wondered if tide comes into play. Might there be a preference to spin the vessel at high tide rather than low tide? Or is this a non-issue?
hawkeyetlse Posted February 23, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 23, 2016 I copied this from someone who posted it last year: Nice. Did they do the same thing for the Dawn? The captain on the Dawn made it sound like they alternated port-starboard every week, in order to the service the lifeboats on each side on a regular schedule, but I have a feeling it isn't that predictable, either. njhorseman Posted February 23, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) I've even seen ships switch docking sides during their stay in Bermuda. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. Edited February 23, 2016 by njhorseman
npater Posted February 24, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 24, 2016 You can check on the bermuda web cam every time it docks in bermuda and you might get an idea which side it will dock when it is your cruise
ColinIllinois Posted February 24, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) You can check on the bermuda web cam every time it docks in bermuda and you might get an idea which side it will dock when it is your cruise That won't mean a thing. As mentioned in the previous posts it is unpredictable. Edited February 24, 2016 by ColinIllinois
dexddd Posted February 24, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 24, 2016 I believe it was Meatball_NY© who keeps track of the docking the last couple years. As said, it it typically 2/3 to 3/4 of the times port side along the dock for BA and Dawn but since Dawn switched docks last year I wasn't really paying attention to how the Dawn docked. Johnny Bananas Posted February 24, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 24, 2016 Nice. Did they do the same thing for the Dawn? I'm not sure if someone did it for Dawn... I saw this on a social media page
