wendy123 Posted October 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2005 I saw a post where it was stated that Carnival prefers the luggage to be locked. Can anyone else confirm this for me? I know that in airports all luggage must remain unlocked so I assumed cruise ships followed those guidelines as well. I usually do not lock my luggage. Thanks so much for your help!;)
cherylandtk Posted October 11, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Lock your luggage. Airports need access for security post 9-11, cruise ships don't. Best locks are TSA compliant, then you don't have to mess with unlocking for plane and relocking for ship.
phlydude Posted October 11, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 11, 2005 I lock my bags before handing them over to the porters. I use neon zip ties. This is so I know if anyone accessed the bags if there is none or a different color tie on there.

If airport screeners cut them, you get a replacement for free. Best purchase I made.
emmysmommy Posted October 16, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 16, 2005 Brookstone stores also carry the TSA compliant luggage locks. They come in cool neon colors too! They cost about $15 for a package of 2 locks.

MsBlue Posted October 16, 2005 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2005 Can anyone else confirm this for me? Confirmation can be found on Carnival's website, as well in the information booklet they send with your documents, and in their big brochures. They don't merely suggest you lock it, they say to make sure you LOCK your luggage before handing it over to the porters at the pier, AND before leaving it in the hall the night before debarkation. (The porters are not Carnival employees.) Lock it.
Orchid Lady Posted October 16, 2005 #8 Share Posted October 16, 2005 Zip ties worked great for us too....just remember to leave something OUT of the luggage to cut the ties with. (Not like me...and packed the clippers in the suitcase) I had to run around the halls looking for someone that had something so I could cut them. How Aggrevating! CruiseNut7 Posted October 16, 2005 #9 Share Posted October 16, 2005 I use the zip or cable ties too for my flight and boarding the ship. I've never seen them in colors, however. Anyone know where you can buy them in colors? Thanks, Diane :)

LRene Posted October 16, 2005 #11 Share Posted October 16, 2005 We just use the TSA compliant locks. If TSA opens your luggage with their key, they put a note inside. We got the locks at WalMart for about $5 each. They're combo locks but TSA has a key they can use if they want to.
Wennfred Posted October 16, 2005 #12 Share Posted October 16, 2005 Yes, Walmart has them, Red or Blue, that says TSA 001 under by the Key hole... Since theres a Walmart on every corner I would check there first :)
barbemm Posted October 18, 2005 #13 Share Posted October 18, 2005 They have them at Target too, I bought two in a pack for $8.99...they have them in neon green, black or gold... Barb I always make sure they are locked before the porter gets his hands on them, lol...before I had tsa locks..
Juliadlf Posted October 18, 2005 #14 Share Posted October 18, 2005 We had our luggage unlocked for the flight and once we arrived in Rome we relocked the bags and handed them over to the Carnival rep for transport to the pier. Took only two minutes to relock everything.
