vanessa5076 Posted March 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2016 Hi. We are going to Cannes on Brilliance of tje Seas and realised that we are docking in Cannes. Is it possible to get to Monte Carlo independently from Cannes or would we be better booking with a ship excursion? Many thanks
Rare Hlitner Posted March 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2016 Hi. We are going to Cannes on Brilliance of tje Seas and realised that we are docking in Cannes. Is it possible to get to Monte Carlo independently from Cannes or would we be better booking with a ship excursion? Many thanks You are not "docking" in Cannes but will be tendering. This is important since it means that independent travelers without priority tendering might have to wait hours to get ashore! Once ashore you could walk (about 3/4 of a mile) from the tender pier to the train station. Getting a taxi from the tender pier to the train station might be difficult (you never know). The train to Monte Carlo takes about 1:10 (each way) and usually runs about once (sometimes twice) an hour. Once in Monte Carlo, you might want to use public transit or a taxi to get from the train station to the more touristy areas. Hank

We did a fabulous private tour in a van which took us to the morning market in Nice, we stopped in Eze to admire the breath taking view and we were taken to Monte Carlo to visit the Palace and Casino it was amazing. Our driver had a van seatting 8 we did a roll call and shared costs with 3 other passengers. I f you are interested I can send you Nancy's email, she arranged everything for us. Taay Chi Posted March 14, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Our driver picked us up and first took us to the morning market in the historical part of Nice - we had a lovely stroll and then we went to Eze, made a stop to admire the breathtaking view. There is a free tour of the perfume factory but we preferred to head to Monte Carlo. In Monte Carlo, we saw the changing of the guards at the palace. We toured the palace and after lunch we went for a drive which allowed us to admire the yachts in the bay and the fancy cars in front of the Casino. The landscape is stunning, Monte Carlo has got to be the poshest "country" I have ever been to!

CallyCruzer Posted April 5, 2016 #13 Share Posted April 5, 2016 We found going to Monte Carlo from Cannes very simple. We tendered in - walked to the train station - and once in Monte Carlo it was very easy to walk around - Went to the church, saw the changing of the guards, gardens, and the casino. Had a quick lunch. Took the train back - getting off in Nice - walked down to the waterfront for a glass of wine - then back to train station and had plenty of time to walk down the main drag of Cannes. Very much a DIY plan - tours not needed and you can set your own timeline. Our ship was in in from 7 - 6.
Epic Cruiser2 Posted May 11, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 11, 2016 Hey Cally Cruzer... Can you get off the train from Cannes to Monaco or Monte Carlo anywhere along the route? Do you have to pay again when you get off the train? Or is there a day pass available?
Rare Host Bonjour Posted May 14, 2016 #15 Share Posted May 14, 2016 Hey Cally Cruzer... Can you get off the train from Cannes to Monaco or Monte Carlo anywhere along the route? Do you have to pay again when you get off the train? Or is there a day pass available? Yes....you may get off the train anywhere along the way from Monte Carlo to Cannes and then get back on the train and resume your journey. The only thing that would change your ticket price would be if you were to stay on BEYOND either the Cannes or Monte Carlo stations and extend the journey, making it farther/longer/more expensive. Stopping and re-boarding from a station within the range of the journey say, Villefrance, Eze or Beaulieu-sur-Mer is ok - you are just getting off and back on to complete your journey to the final destination - either Cannes or Monte Carlo. The only important thing to keep in mind is the time schedule for the station where you get off as this may be a station where trains might not stop every time (a local station stop) and so you could be left waiting awhile to re-board the train which would leave you less time on either end, leaving even less time to re-board the ship. This still does not mean you cannot or should not leave the train - just stay aware of the train schedules. I hope you enjoy your port visit on the French Riviera in Cannes, Monaco and any other place you might stop ;)
