Spa Services Question about Pricing

We are booked on the Diamond Princess 9/25 and my daughter and I are trying to figure out which days to book appt with the spa. I am aware that the rates for the spa are less when in port then when the ship is out to sea,,,,but my question is,,,,when its in port and the ship is leaving at 5pm and we book a massage at lets say 6pm,,,do we pay the higher rate? Also what if we book a massage at 3 and the ship is leaving at 5 but our treatments arent done til 6,,do they charge more? Susan

Actually the rates do not differ on sea/port days. They have on other Princess ships but on the Diamond they did not offer a percentage off per se. There were specials, select any three of .... for $$$ but nothing that said 20% off or the like, so your timing issues are not a concern.

I was told by the spa manager that "special pricing" is determined by how booked the spa becomes. If there are many spots available they will discount the treatments. Port days are usually not as full so depending on your cruise you may get a discount.

That being said, if you do the spa tour before the ship leaves the pier, you can get discounts off all treatments booked then for the voyage. We did just that and booked for the week and saved about $100.

When reserving spa treatments on line before the cruise (for Carib Princess) there is a difference in price between sea days and port days.

OK, OK, I admit when I'm wrong. Just had a long conversation with Dustin. He put me on hold for > 10 minutes to call Customer Assistance. The Spa specialists (who book you if you don't book on the website - yesterday the website was down so had to call. Diana was extremely nice and knowledgable although she has never sailed) BTW, if you want to call and ask Spa questions, during the week, when the Voice Mail Maven does her spiel, push the number to select Brochures. Brochure Fulfillment personnel are the Spa-trained agents. It just gets you there faster instead of having to be transferred from the res floor.

Back to Dustin: First of all, I mentioned the Rainforest shower. They had to search through all their literature and could find no Rainforest reference. Well, I was talking to a Man and, although he was on the same Ship Inspection that I took, he probably had no interest in the Spa and didn't even see it. He said that this area IS only for the pax with appointments. I am flabergasted. I should think that this would be such a good Marketing Tool for pax to purchase treatments, by seeing and using the (now) un-free facilities. Dustin and I had quite a discussion about this and I really think that Princess is missing a bet by barring pax who want to try it out. Knowing the layout, I would just walk right in past that marble reception desk, say, Good Day, with my bathing suit and thong shoes on and then just keep walking to the end (veer right). If they later asked me, just say, "I am going to make appointments for a massage, facial, and body treaments, but I need to check the timing with my husband (boyfriend, daughter, etc.). First, go to the Embarkation Day Tour, smile and be friendly, and ask a lot of questions. They will remember how nice you are. Cindy is booked for a massage and massage + ped for Steven on 5 June CB sailing, so I will let you know if prior to her appointment, or subsequent to it, she gets thrown overboard or barred from the DR by invading the Sacred Spa Territory. They are NOT keeping me out.

Cindy and Steven's Massages are on first sea day out, 6 June on CB at 9 a.m. Steven's ped is on 7 June at 9 a.m. He is 15 and has never been Spa-ed, but he promised me he would because I know he expects a large on-board credit be placed on his Folio by his Lovin' GraMaaa. BTW, pax under the age of 18 will wear their bathing suits during treatments (they do have disposable underwear available, however) for privacy.

Question 1: Are the spa services available to check out online? I searched, but couldn't find.

Question 2: This Rainforest shower sounds neat! What is that, exactly?

Question 3: Can you book spa services online, or do you have to wait till you get there?

Thanks!

Hi, Osnab,

On the Princess website, there is a Link for the Lotus Spa Brochure. It is Acrobat (which I do not like). I printed it out and it is 19 pages. Before I discovered this, I looked at the services Through my daughter's CB booking and I compiled my own lists. I will post them here for you because: who knows where that other thread is that I alread posted them on.

Here is the Princess website Link:

http://www.princess.com/onboard/pdf/spa/Lotus_Spa.pdf

There are 3 menus that I have put prices with: Body Treatments, Facials, and Massages. I did not construct in my format the hair & nails. It is very tedious to do. I will make 3 separate posts and you can print each. Each one is 3 pages.

QUESTION 2:

The RainForest shower has 2 entrances, but it is narrow, no door, all tile. There are many shower heads. They are adjustable and the water temperature is also adjustable. They shower you from head to toe. Wear a shower cap and your bathing suit. It turns itself automatically and then you may push the button and do it all over again. It is very nice before or after treatments or swimming.

There are 3 ways to book. In the Spa after you board (Too Late - the good times are already taken).

On Line. Go to Princess website, click on Cruise Personalizer, put in your name and booking number. On the next page, on the left side, click on Lotus Spa and it will ask you for which pax. Then you choose the type of treatment; i.e., nails, hair, body, facial, or massage. The menus I listed above will appear (sans the price). After you click on the treatment, then you see the price. First I think you must choose the day. The correct price will come up as to whether it is a Sea or a Port day. By changing the day, you will see the price change.

The 3rd method is to call Princess (during normal working hours, during the week, or Sat, not on Sun). Like I said before, when you are listening to the on-hold Voice Mail, choose the number for Brochures. The Brochures Fulfillment personnel are also Spa-trained. This may be the Best for you since they can answer many of your questions and are much more knowledgable than res agents who make bookings. If you get the res agent, just ask for the Lotus Spa Desk. Here is the website for the new Princess product, Phytomer:

http://www.phytomer.com/AccUk.asp

Have fun in the Spa. You will be glad you went.

Princess Di,

Your information is SO helpful!! Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this.

Question for you - I noticed that you can't book "up do" appointments for formal nights via the website. Can you do that by calling the spa experts? i would love to do that so I don't have to run to the salon right after I board and stand in a line to book my appointment.

Thanks!

Jamie

Dear SpinGal,

Actually, I was a little confused by this also. I just found another menu for the Salon Side which I will post and it said that these must be booked on board. However, when I called Sat., I believe that Diana had offered booking me into the salon and, as well, I did book Steven for his first-ever pedicure. I would call (definitely for Formal Night, especially) and book right away. It seems that this has gone over so big that it will be tough to get the times you want and, yeah, I hate that line with all the indecisive pax ahead of me. You go book, girl

Dear SpinGal and Os,

You are very welcome. Os, you ARE missing something if you do not try it. It is no ordinary shower. They May also have a regular Vichy shower (the one where you lie on the table). However, there would be a charge for this since it is assisted by a Therapist. The Spa is truly Heaven.

I'm not sure the on-line spa booking thing works for the older ships. I followed the instructions above exactly, and there is no "spa" selection for me on the Dawn in 2005.

Dear Kallen,

So sorry if you were misled. The Lotus Spa we are talking about is available only on the Grand Class ships. I guess it didn't used to be as popular at the time these (smaller) and older ships were built. The Lotus Spa is built in to the Design of the ship. It has lots of tile and marble everywhere. I did the MR on the Sea Princess a couple of years ago. She is twin to the Dawn. I am sure you will have some marvelous treatments there as well and they have to have steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, perhaps even a Vichey shower. You will just have to race to the Spa directly after boarding (husband can pack the carry-ons to the cabin). Look at your Itinerary and write down the times and days you want and you will be all ready to book up.

I don't know if it will be possible to retro these smaller ships to the Lotus design; however, all the ships will probably eventually transition from Steiners management and products to Princess Management and Phytomer products. Have a relaxing cruise!

Thank you for being so informative, information on the spa is hard to come by on these boards. I appreciate all the time you put into it! I can't wait to try out a Princess spa for myself, you make it sound so wonderful. I plan on spending quite a bit of time there! Amanda.
